The Triumph Tiger Explorer [ ˈtaɪgəʳ ɪkˈsplɔ: ʳəʳ ] was a motorcycle made by the British vehicle manufacturer Triumph Motorcycles . The travel enduro was presented on November 8, 2011 at the EICMA motorcycle fair in Milan and is manufactured in Hinckley , England . Sales started in March 2012. From November 2017, the Triumph Tiger Explorer will be marketed as the Tiger 1200 , which is an intensive facelift, but not a completely new model.

It is driven by a liquid-cooled three - cylinder engine with a capacity of 1215 cm³. The in- line engine generates a nominal output of 101 kW (137 hp) and a maximum torque of 121 Nm at a speed of 6400 min −1 . With the tuning changed for EURO4 in 2016, the values ​​increased to 102KW and 123Nm. The four valves per cylinder head are controlled by two overhead, chain-driven camshafts via bucket tappets . The three cylinders have a Ø 85.6 mm bore , the pistons have a stroke of 71.4 mm with a compression ratio of 11: 1.

A two-stage traction control regulates the propulsion. The motorcycle accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 3.5 seconds and reaches an electronically governed top speed of 210 km / h.

The chassis is built on a tubular steel frame . A single swing arm made of aluminum with torque support guides the rear wheel, an upside-down telescopic fork with a diameter of 46 mm guides the front wheel. The power is converted by a claw-shifted six-speed gearbox, the power separation by a multi-plate wet clutch in an oil bath and the secondary drive by a cardan drive . The clutch is operated hydraulically. The permissible total weight is 481 kg. An electronically controlled, semi-active chassis will also be available from 2016.

Braking system

A double disc brake with a diameter of 305 mm and floating brake discs with 4-piston fixed callipers from Nissin, from 2016 from Brembo, and at the rear a disc brake with a diameter of 282 mm and 2-piston floating calliper slows down the front tire. An anti-lock braking system that can be switched off supports the braking system. As of 2016, the brake system will be partially integral; when the front brake is operated, the rear brake is also operated at the same time. In addition, various modes are available with which the braking system is more specifically tailored to the respective purpose. The system has also been expanded to include a lean angle-dependent control, the so-called curve ABS.

Fuel supply

The mixture is formed by an electronically controlled, sequential fuel injection called multipoint. The ignition is digitally controlled by a transistor-controlled spark plug per cylinder. The manufacturer recommends the use of unleaded motor gasoline with a knock resistance of at least 91 octane. The fuel tank has a volume of 20 liters, of which 4 liters are in reserve. The average fuel consumption is 5.5 liters per 100 km.

Electrical system

The throttle position is converted electronically into the corresponding throttle position via a ride-by-wire system. The starter battery has a capacity of 18 Ah and supplies the electric starter . The alternator generates an electrical output of 950 watts and, in addition to the ignition and lighting system, also supplies the on-board socket in the cockpit, the on-board computer with LCD display and cruise control as well as the handle and seat heating. Fittings and instruments were taken over from the Triumph Tiger 800 .

Exhaust system

The exhaust gas is processed by a regulated catalytic converter and complies with emission class EURO3 , from 2016 EURO4. The three exhaust manifolds lead into a stainless steel rear silencer on the right-hand side of the vehicle.
