The KTM 1190 Adventure [ ədˈventʃəʳ ] is a motorcycle from the Austrian vehicle manufacturer KTM . The travel enduro was presented to the press on October 3, 2012 at the Intermot in Cologne and was finally assembled in Mattighofen .
technology
drive
It is powered by a liquid-cooled two - cylinder engine with a displacement of 1195 cm³, known as the LC8 , which is already used in a modified form in the KTM 1190 RC8 R superbike . The cylinder bank angle between the two cylinders of the V-engine is 75 °. The four-stroke engine generates a nominal output of 110 kW (150 hp) and a maximum torque of 125 Nm at a speed of 7500 min −1 . The four valves per cylinder head are of two overhead, gear driven camshaft via DLC -coated drag lever actuated. The two cylinders have a bore of 105 mm in diameter, the pistons have a stroke of 69 mm with a compression ratio of 12.5: 1. A water pump permanently supplies the engine with coolant, while three rotor pumps ensure pressure circulation lubrication .
The motorcycle accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 3.6 seconds and reaches a top speed of 246 km / h. The deceleration from 100 to 0 km / h takes place with an average of 9.5 m / s² over a distance of 40.6 m.
landing gear
The chassis is based on a self-supporting lattice frame , which consists of powder-coated chrome-molybdenum oval steel tubes and weighs 9.8 kg. The screwed-on rear frame consists of square tubes made of aluminum. The rear wheel is guided by a two-arm swing arm made of aluminum, the front wheel by an upside-down telescopic fork . The power is converted by a claw-shifted six-speed gearbox, the power separation by a multi-disc anti-hopping clutch in an oil bath and the secondary drive by an X-ring chain. The clutch is operated hydraulically.
A double disc brake with a diameter of 320 mm from Brembo with floating brake calipers decelerates on the front tire, and a disc brake with a two-piston fixed calliper at the rear. The braking system is supported by a three-stage traction control ( motorcycle traction control, MTC ) and a switchable, combined dual-circuit anti-lock braking system (C-ABS) from Bosch .
As of model year 2014, the KTM 1190 Adventure was the world's first production motorcycle to be equipped with Motorcycle Stability Control (MSC), an electronic stability control system from Robert Bosch GmbH . This system can be retrofitted for the 2013 model year.
The maximum load is 205 kg.
Electrical system
The motorcycle has an electric ride-by-wire system, which electronically converts the throttle commands to the corresponding throttle position using various power mappings (Street, Sport, Rain, Off-Road) . A starter battery with a capacity of 11.2 Ah supplies the electric starter . The alternator generates an electrical output of 450 watts.
Fuel supply
The mixture is formed by an electronically controlled fuel injection. Two different sized spark plugs per cylinder ignite the fuel mixture. The average fuel consumption is 6.3 l per 100 km at a speed of 120 km / h. The unbreakable plastic fuel tank has a volume of 23 liters and enables a theoretical range of 365 km. The manufacturer recommends using unleaded petrol with a knock resistance of at least 95 octane . E-10 fuel can be filled.
Exhaust system
The exhaust aftertreatment is carried out by a regulated catalytic converter with a secondary air system and falls below the limit values of the Euro-3 emissions standard . The two exhaust manifolds open into a stainless steel rear silencer on the right side of the vehicle.
Model variants
In addition to the basic model, an 'R' variant is offered. This has 30 mm more travel on the front and rear axles, an additional engine protection bar and an orange painted frame (basic model black). Furthermore, a 1290 Super Adventure has been available since 2014 , which is equipped with the engine from the 1290 Super Duke. This was reduced to 118 kW (160 hp) and designed for greater torque in the medium engine speed range. In addition, the Super Adventure has a semi-active chassis, which automatically adjusts to changed driving situations according to a preselectable mode. A 1050 Adventure is available for model year 2015, the engine of which has been reduced from 1195 to 1050 cm³ displacement. The nominal power was reduced to 70 kW (95 hp) in order to meet the performance criteria of the driving license class A2 . The weight also fell by 5 kg to 212 compared to the 1190.
Market positioning
At the time of its market launch, the KTM 1190 Adventure was the most powerful travel enduro with a displacement of over one liter, and the power-to-weight ratio of 1.84 kg / kW is only undercut by the Ducati Multistrada.

Reviews
“Packed with technological innovations, a super powerful Vau-Zwo engine and an impeccable chassis in every respect, the 1190 Adventure makes far fewer compromises when it comes to driving fun than you would have expected it to be with the announced versatility. On the contrary: its pronounced agility combined with a high level of safety, the best standard equipment and the still good terrain suitability make the EDS version for 14,795 euros a more than affordable offer. "
“KTM put its ear to the tarmac and listened carefully, separating the Adventure and Adventure R models from one another more clearly. Brakes, transmission and traction are the highlights, also the ergonomics, the fork could be firmer. Performance like the superbikes not so long ago. Nevertheless: Where the road gets worse, the Adventure is guaranteed not to bend, completely impossible. "
“The Mattighofenerin doesn't feel like a fat travel enduro, because it is simply the lightest. Our test machine weighed 235 kilos with a full 23-liter tank, extensive on-board tools and the electronically adjustable EDS chassis. In this respect, the convincing handling is hardly surprising. "
