The KTM 1290 Super Duke GT is a motorcycle from the Austrian two-wheeler manufacturer KTM . The partially disguised sports tourer is based on the KTM 1290 Super Duke R power naked bike and has been modified to improve travel and long-distance comfort. The suffix GT stands for Gran Turismo .

Changes compared to the basic model

The GT was modified compared to the R version presented in 2014. The rear frame was lengthened and made more load-bearing for a pillion passenger and the luggage rack. For a longer range, the fuel tank has been enlarged by 5 to 23 liters. The handlebars have been widened by 25 mm and positioned 10 mm higher to improve ergonomics. The revised, refined version of the electronically controlled chassis was adopted from the KTM 1290 Super Adventure travel enduro . The footrests are lower compared to the R and allow a larger knee angle.

The more torque with respect to modified two-cylinder engine generates a rated power of 127 kW (173 hp) and a maximum torque of 144 Nm at a speed of 6750 min -1 . Compared to the naked bike, the cylinder heads , the crankshaft, the combustion chambers and the intake tract of the LC8 engine have been modified so that the maximum torque is already 1000 rpm earlier. The liquid-cooled V-engine has a cylinder angle of 75 degrees. In the two cylinder heads, two overhead, chain-driven camshafts control two inlet and two outlet valves via rocker arms. The motorcycle accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 3.2 seconds.

The vehicle design was created by KTM's in-house designer Gerald Kiska.

Assistance systems

Model year 2016

Lean angle-dependent traction control (MTC) and a combined anti-lock braking system regulate traction during acceleration and deceleration. A semi-active chassis from WP Suspension regulates the spring rate depending on the selected mode, among other things via an electronic damping control ( English Suspension Control Unit, SCU ). Optional one are Hill Start Assist ( English Hill Hold Control, HHC ) and an engine drag torque control (MSR), which prevents the rear wheel static friction loses if the fuel supply is abruptly interrupted or the clutch engages too quickly when downshifting.

Reviews

“Of course, the KTM is a bit far removed from the comfort of a full- size tourer ; this is conceptually inevitable. But wind protection and seating comfort make it easy to convert two or even three tank fillings one after the other into quick bridging of the distance. [...] KTM did not leave anything to chance when mutating the 1290 Super Duke R into a GT, but instead developed an extremely active naked bike into a no less active sports tourer. In the small sports tourer segment, the Austrian stands out with its extremely high, but perfectly controllable engine power; all competitors are either significantly heavier or less powerful. "

“With the Superduke GT, all the conveniences and all the technical gimmicks of the luxury travel class are included. But the GT will never be a comfortable travel steamer with a pennant, backrest and stereo system. "

- Ulf Böhringer : The world

“Dealing with the full power of the Super Duke R, modestly dubbed 'The Beast' by the Mattighofen Powers, requires a clear mind and uninterrupted focus on all electronic bandaging. A lot can be adjusted to driving style, purpose, road and weather conditions at the push of a button, but once the ABS, traction control and chassis have been adjusted, it is the pilot who has his hand on the trigger - as with any other motorcycle from the analog era. [...] There aren't many ways to travel faster with a land vehicle than with this motorcycle. "

- Christoph Lentsch : 1000PS

'The KTM Super Duke GT is almost a contradiction in terms, because if ever there was a bike that seemed unlikely to gain the letters GT at the end of its name, it was the Super Duke. A Gran Turismo machine traditionally blends high performance with long-distance comfort, attracting adjectives such as elegant and refined in the process. By contrast the original Super Duke, launched in 2005, was the ultimate two-wheeled hooligan. '
