The KTM 990 Adventure [ ədˈventʃəʳ ] is a motorcycle from the Austrian vehicle manufacturer KTM . The travel enduro was presented to the press on January 29, 2006 in Fuerteventura and manufactured in Mattighofen until 2013 .

It is driven by a liquid-cooled two - cylinder engine with a capacity of 999 cm³, known as the LC8 . The cylinder bank angle between the two cylinders of the V-engine is 75 °. The four-stroke engine generates a nominal output of 78 kW / 106 PS (115 PS in the "R" model) and a maximum torque of 100 Nm. The four valves per cylinder head are controlled by two overhead, chain-driven camshafts . The engine is started by an electric starter. Compared to the 950 model, a Keihin injection system was installed.

The motorcycle accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 3.8 seconds (3.6 in the "R" model) and reaches a top speed of 220 km / h.

The chassis is based on a powder-coated, self-supporting lattice frame made of chrome-molybdenum steel tubes with a screwed-on light metal rear and has a two-arm swing arm made of aluminum at the rear and an upside-down telescopic fork at the front . The power is converted by a six-speed gearbox, the power separation by a multi-plate clutch in an oil bath and the secondary drive by an O-ring chain . The clutch is operated hydraulically.

The tank is divided into two parts and is also filled via two tank nozzles. The tank volume is 19.5 liters and is sufficient for about 300 km.

A Brembo double disc brake with floating brake calipers decelerates on the front tire, and a disc brake on the rear. A disengageable dual-circuit anti-lock braking system from Bosch supports the braking system. The brakes decelerate from 100 to 0 km / h with an average of 9.6 m / s² over a braking distance of 40.2 m.

Exhaust system

The exhaust gas aftertreatment is carried out by a regulated catalytic converter with a secondary air system and complies with emission class EURO3 . The two exhaust manifolds each open into a stainless steel rear silencer.

KTM 990 Adventure R.

In 2009 the 990 Adventure R came on the market, in which the rated output of the V-engine was increased to 115 hp. Depending on the vintage, the suspension travel is extended to 245 or 265 mm, the ground clearance has increased to 316 mm. An anti-lock braking system was not offered. The R version is therefore designed even more consistently for off-road driving and participation in rally competitions.
