The Aprilia ETV 1200 Caponord is a motorcycle from the Italian vehicle manufacturer Aprilia . The travel enduro was presented to the press on November 13, 2012 at the EICMA motorcycle fair in Milan and is manufactured in Northern Italy . The sales name is derived from the Italian term for the North Cape .

construction

drive

It is driven by a liquid-cooled two - cylinder engine with a displacement of 1197 cm³. The cylinder bank angle between the two cylinders of the V-engine is 90 °. The one designated as M558M four-stroke engine produces a power rating of 94 kW (128 hp) and a maximum torque of 116 Nm at a speed of 6500 min -1 . The four valves per cylinder head are controlled by two overhead, chain-driven camshafts via rocker arms. The two cylinders have a bore of 106 mm in diameter, the pistons have a stroke of 67.8 mm with a compression ratio of 12.0: 1. A three-stage traction control ( English Aprilia Traction Control, ATC ) controls the propulsion. A pump supplies the engine permanently with 2.5 liters of coolant.

The motorcycle accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 3.7 seconds and reaches a top speed of 240 km / h.

landing gear

The chassis is built on a modular tubular steel frame with side parts made of aluminum and a screw-off rear frame made of steel. A Sachs mono spring strut with 150 mm travel guides the rear wheel, an upside-down telescopic fork guides the front wheel. The power is converted by a claw-shifted six-speed gearbox, the power separation by a multi-plate wet clutch in an oil bath and the secondary drive by an O-ring chain . The clutch is operated hydraulically. Electronic suspension adjustment ( Aprilia Dynamic Damping, ADD ) is optionally available.

The vehicle weight when ready to drive is 251 kg, the permissible total weight 460 kg.

Braking system

A double disc brake with a diameter of 320 mm and floating steel discs decelerates on the front tire, while a disc brake with a diameter of 240 mm and single-piston calipers at the rear. A switchable two-channel anti-lock braking system from Continental and an Aprilia Traction Control (ATC) support the braking system.

Fuel supply

The mixture is formed by an electronic fuel injection called multipoint. Each cylinder has two injection nozzles. The ignition is digitally controlled by two transistor-controlled spark plugs per cylinder. The manufacturer recommends using unleaded petrol with a knock resistance of at least 95 octane. The fuel tank has a volume of 24 liters, of which 4 liters are in reserve.

Electrical system

A ride-by-wire system regulates the throttle position according to the throttle command and the selected performance mapping (sport, touring, rain). The starter battery has a capacity of 12 Ah and supplies the electric starter . The alternator generates an electrical output of 690 watts. The on-board computer can be read out (with a smartphone ) via a Bluetooth interface.

Exhaust system

The exhaust aftertreatment is carried out by a regulated catalytic converter and falls below the emission limit values of emission class EURO3 . The two exhaust manifolds open into a stainless steel rear silencer on the right side of the vehicle.

Market positioning

In the travel enduro class, the Caponord has an average engine capacity of over one liter.

Reviews

“At higher speeds, the ADD ensures excellent stability, but it doesn't make the Aprilia particularly light-footed. The Travel Pack version, which weighs 247 kilograms without petrol, wants to be steered in, because then it is neutral and stable. Alternating curves require a bit of getting used to due to the changing damping. "

- Thilo Kozik : Handelsblatt

“The new Caponord is a sporty, practical, solid and travel-ready motorcycle - but that was the old Caponord, and it was also more manageable with the narrower enduro bikes. Aprilia is currently making progress in the area of electronics. Fuel consumption at the 1980s level is in stark contrast to this. "

- Maik Schwarz : MO − The motorcycle magazine

“The only downer is that the Caponord 1200, like its sister, is not a food lover. Despite the previously full 24 liter tank, the Aprilia was on the last bar of the display after almost 200 kilometers. With a generously assumed reserve for 50 kilometers, a consumption of almost 10 liters remains. As a worthy apology, the great Capo brings this typical two-cylinder sound into play in addition to the good driving performance, sounds very pithy and thunders to the point that it is sure to get under the skin of every two-cylinder fan. But it never becomes uncomfortably loud - which would also be annoying on a travel enduro in the long run. "

- Martin Vielhaber : 1000ps.de

“The Caponord is not a lightweight. The fully fueled “Travel Pack” version weighs 265 kilograms - 20 to 30 kilograms more than a BMW R 1200 GS, the KTM or the Ducati in full gear. You can feel this extra weight when driving, especially in alternating bends: Here, mass is important. This impression is reinforced by the wide rear tires in 180 format, which require a lot of lean angle. "
