technology

engine

The Crosstourer is powered by a liquid-cooled four - cylinder engine with a displacement of 1237 cm³, which is derived from the sports tourer VFR 1200 F , but has a power reduction of 32 kW (44 HP). The transverse V-engine has a cylinder bank angle of 76 degrees and a crank pin offset of 28 degrees. The four-stroke engine is adapted to the requirements of a travel enduro and generates a nominal output of 95 kW (129 hp). The maximum torque of 126 Nm is achieved at a speed of 6500 min −1 . Each cylinder head has four valves that are actuated by an overhead camshaft via bucket tappets or rocker arms.

The motorcycle accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 4.0 s and reaches an electronically governed top speed of 210 km / h. The passage from 50 to 120 km / h succeeds in 7.4 seconds. The fuel consumption is 6.1 l per 100 km at an average speed of 130 km / h. The fuel tank has a capacity of 21.5 l and enables a range of 364 km.

Drive-by-wire technology

The engine control unit ( ECU ) controls injection pressure, injection duration and ignition depending on the speed, the gear engaged and the temperature. In addition, the signals for the servomotors of the throttle valves are evaluated by a control unit that generates the potentiometer on the throttle cable. This technology, which works without Bowden cables , is called drive-by-wire or, in this case, throttle-by-wire .

Double clutch

As with the VFR 1200 F, a dual clutch transmission ( DCT ) is optionally available for the VFR 1200 X. In contrast to a car, the transmission does not select the next gear on the load-free transmission shaft, but only shifts when the driver or the automatic function gives the command. At 500 ms, a shift process takes significantly longer than the 200 ms in current cars with dual clutch transmissions, but the Honda DCT can react faster than a passenger car's dual clutch transmission when the accelerator is suddenly released and then downshifted.

Cardan drive

The low-maintenance cardan drive is integrated into the single swing arm . The pivot point of the swing arm is positioned above and behind the front universal joint of the cardan shaft , so the shaft does not run exactly parallel to the longitudinal axis of the swing arm. A sliding piece on the constant velocity joint in front of the ring gear housing ensures the necessary length compensation of the cardan shaft when the rear wheel springs in and out. A total of three shock absorbers were integrated in the drive train: on the shaft, between the clutch and the transmission output shaft and in front of the cardan joint . The single-sided swing arm is supported by a progressive lever linkage and a central spring strut on the frame.

Color variations

The machine will be offered in four paint variants in 2012:

  • Digital Silver Metallic
  • Pearl Sunbeam White
  • Pearl Cosmic Black
  • Candy Prominence Red

For the 2015 model year, the Crosstourer is available for the first time in a 2-color paint scheme. These are:

  • Digital Silver Metallic
  • Pearl Glare White

Reviews

“While we still struggled with sorting with the smaller Crossrunner and the cross-over idea didn't seem entirely understandable to us, we are now doing a lot easier with the Crosstourer. Yes, here the 'X' stands for multifunction, because the narrow 19-inch front wheel, the respectable suspension travel and the cross-spoke wheels are credible indications of the little adventure that every SUV customer would like to see. "

- Tour riders

"However, the 76-degree V4 has been significantly revised for cross-tourer use, with tamer control times, longer and thinner intake manifolds as well as shorter and thinner manifolds and a three-chamber silencer. With success, because the listlessness known from the VFR, especially in the lower speed range, is a thing of the past. The V4 with a 28 degree crank pin offset, big bang firing order and an overhead camshaft that controls the valves via bucket tappets and roller rocker arms, marches off from the first meter with a robust V4 sound and unfolds its power evenly over the entire speed range how predictable. "

- Stefan Kaschel : Motorbike

“Honda honestly calls the new Crosstourer a street enduro, which is good with an empty weight of 275 kilograms. It can still be moved easily on gravel roads and dirt roads, but difficult terrain is no longer its thing. But she feels really good on asphalt. "

- Fabian Hoberg : n-tv

“Now the Crosstourer has not become an Africa Twin replacement, but at least it can lure you with a promising mixture: as a technical gem, a V4 engine with a 76 degree cylinder angle and 28 degree crank pin offset. That makes the drive a real flatterer to the soul: The Honda marches off full of pressure, cultivated and smoothly, accompanied by a great sound, but by no means harmonizes with the driving experience, which remains wooden and stiff. "

- Jörg Lohse, Peter Mayer, Thomas Schmieder : Motorrad BMW Spezial

“Honda has put an 'SUV' on deceptive wire-spoke wheels, a touring machine with dignified comfort and only slightly extended suspension travel. Rase Enduro and 1200 V4 drive don't really seem to be compatible with each other. "
