The Yamaha XT 1200 Z Super Ténéré is a motorcycle from the Japanese manufacturer Yamaha . The travel enduro was presented for the first time in Germany at the motorcycle fair in Dortmund on March 4, 2010. The motorcycle is marketed with the sales name Super Ténéré , which refers to a North African sand desert .

Technical specifications

engine

The motorcycle is powered by a liquid-cooled two - cylinder engine with a displacement of 1199 cm³, which generates a nominal output of 81 kW (110 hp) and has electronic fuel injection and dual ignition, supported by the electronic throttle valve control (YCC-T). The maximum torque of the in- line engine of 114 Nm is available at a speed of 6000 min −1 . The two cylinders have a Ø 98 mm bore , the pistons have a stroke of 79.5 mm with a compression ratio of 11: 1.

The crank pin offset of 270 degrees results in an irregular firing order and gives the unit the characteristics and sound of a V-engine with a 90 degree cylinder angle.

Two balancer shafts reduce the unwanted vibrations. The engine is lubricated according to the dry sump principle, the oil tank is located in the crankcase. In addition to the three-stage traction control (TCS), the on-board electronics offer a choice of two different engine responses via two engine maps (D-mode system) of the electronic engine management.

The motorcycle accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 3.7 seconds and reaches an (electronically regulated) top speed of 210 km / h. The deceleration from 100 km / h to a standstill requires a braking distance of 38.5 m.

Exhaust system

The exhaust system works on the 2-in-1 principle with a two-stage expansion system and a short silencer with a vertically elliptical cross-section. There is a regulated catalytic converter at the intersection of the two manifolds . Two lambda sensors control the emission control.

landing gear

The tubular steel bridge frame is welded from tensile steel. The front wheel is guided by an upside-down fork with a diameter of 43 mm, which can be adjusted in terms of spring preload and rebound and compression levels. The central spring strut of the rear wheel is also variable in rebound and compression. According to the manufacturer, both can be set by hand without tools. The braking forces are transmitted to the front wheel via two floating wave brake discs with a diameter of 310 mm. The rear wheel is braked by a two-piston floating caliper, and the braking force is transmitted by a wave brake disc with a diameter of 282 mm. In addition to the rotational speed of the front and rear wheels, the anti-lock braking system of the Super Ténéré also determines the engine speed, the intensity of braking and the slip in order to determine which of the two wheels or even whether both wheels are at the locking limit and there is a risk of slipping. The low-maintenance cardan drive is hidden in the arm of the swing arm . The Super Ténéré is also equipped with an engine guard as standard. In addition, the height of the sitting position can be adjusted between 84.5 and 87 cm. The position of the windshield can also be adjusted. The standard equipment also includes a 12-volt connection and a main stand.

Yamaha Chip Controlled Throttle System (YCC-T)

The electronic throttle valve control optimizes the interaction of speed, air flow, torque curve and fuel consumption. If a conventional throttle valve is suddenly opened, excessive fuel injection into the cylinder head can occur. This affects the efficiency of the combustion process and leads to reduced power development. With the YCC-T system, however, the electronic control unit continuously processes data from various sensors - including air temperature, intake pressure, ambient air pressure, crankshaft position, operating temperature, speed, throttle valve position and oxygen content in the exhaust gas. The data from the control unit enable the YCC-T system to precisely control the actuation of the throttle valve and to always adapt it to the current operating conditions, thus ensuring an optimal fuel-air mixture and better performance.

Traction control

  • TCS1: the system intervenes whenever the rear wheel starts to spin (standard mode)
  • TCS2: the system only intervenes in a reduced form, so that an ambitious driving style with light slides is possible
  • TCS3: the system is completely deactivated

D-mode system

  • S mode (Sport): very direct engine response, ideal for extremely sporty driving
  • T-Mode (Town): offers a somewhat more moderate, smoother power delivery

Color variants and equipment

The machine is offered in the following paint variants:

  • Viper Blue
  • Silver Tech
  • Competition White
  • Midnight Black
  • Matt Gray
  • Race Blu

Reviews

“With the special“ Worldcrosser ”model, Yamaha wants to incite the addiction to infinite space, but cannot really eliminate the problems of the Ténéré: The engine is always strained and remains anemic when it is pulled through - and despite the Akrapović pot in the special edition, the sound experience is bland. "

- Jörg Lohse, Peter Mayer, Thomas Schmieder : Motorrad BMW Spezial

“It's amazing how this unit manages to pull up from such low revs without chopping or jerking. This character may arise partly from the aforementioned irregular firing order and the record-breaking long stroke of 79.5 millimeters, but partly from the generous handling of the centrifugal masses of the crankshaft and the two balance shafts. Because the brisk increase in speed and lively thrust are not the thing of the 110 hp Yamaha twin. Harmony is his credo. "

- ADAC

“The power and torque curve shows the Twin is a rock solid worker who goes to work at eight in the morning and does his day's work consistently at a high level. If the ignition key is turned back to "Off" in the evening, it has done exactly what was expected of it - no more, but also no less. "
