The XVZ was released as a “super tourer ” by the Japanese motorcycle manufacturer Yamaha in 1983 and built until 1991.

history

Yamaha designed the XVZ 12 T in 1983 as a luxury card-driven touring machine for the USA to compete with the American Harley-Davidson tourers as well as the Honda Gold Wing and the Kawasaki Voyager . The machines were made exclusively in Japan (in contrast to the Goldwing, which was made in the USA). A market in Europe was not originally seen, but over time, according to Yamaha, around 6,000 machines were delivered to Europe, the majority of them to France , the Netherlands and Switzerland . While the models intended for the American market were equipped with everything that makes traveling with the motorcycle luxurious (A US full equipment included, among other things: cruise control , radio / cassette deck , intercom , CB radio , top case , compressor-operated air support for the front and rear suspension ), Yamaha sold the venture outside the USA adjusted for equipment, for example in Switzerland without CB radio and cruise control, all the way to Germany - only with a compressor and a small touring windshield (with a rubber rim that was mandatory in Germany at the time).

From 1986 the XVZ 13 T Venture Royale was offered. In addition to the increase in displacement by 100 cm³, reinforced gear wheels in the transmission and a modified carburettor system , the model update in the technical area included, among other things, an improved brake system with an electrical anti-dive system. A cruise control was now also available in Germany. The external appearance of the XVZ 13 T has changed significantly, especially in the rear area; the side cases on the 1200, which were still completely removable, have now been integrated as permanently mounted side cases in a self-contained rear.

The production of the Venture Royale was discontinued in 1991, in Germany gray-imported 1300 new machines with full US equipment were sold in Germany until 1994.

Situation today

According to Yamaha, only 315 XVZ 12 Ts were sold in Germany between 1984 and 1988, of the XVZ 13 T, and only 89 units between 1989 and 1991. In addition, there are a considerable number of gray imports with the coveted US equipment. Despite or perhaps because of the rare distribution of this motorcycle, there are various clubs within Europe: In addition to the Venture Royale Club Germany, there are the Venture Royale clubs in Switzerland, England, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and France. Up to 200 Royal Ventures come together at the regular international meetings . In the USA, the Venture Line produced special accessories for the Venture Royale , despite the fact that production has now been discontinued, a large part is still in stock at special dealers.

The engine of the Venture was on the one hand - after a fundamental revision (optimized intake and exhaust ports, larger valves with reinforced valve springs, sharper camshafts, lighter pistons, revised connecting rods and crankshaft and of course the "V-Boost System") with an increased power of 145 HP used in the V-Max from 1984 to 2006 , and the engine of the Yamaha cruiser XVZ 1300 A Royal Star, which has been built since 1996, is based on the old XVZ drive.
