Yamaha TT 600

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The TT 600 is a motorcycle in the Enduro category from the Japanese motorcycle manufacturer Yamaha .

TT stands for the sporty offshoot of Yamaha's XT series, which is based on the well-known single-cylinder engine of the Yamaha XT 600 with four valves.

In contrast to the XT, the TT has higher-quality suspension elements with more suspension travel and less weight. For a long time it was considered the only “hard enduro” from Japan.

history

The original version was produced in low numbers from 1983 to 1993 and was mainly sold in the USA. In Germany it was only possible to import a model that could only be registered with 17 HP.

From 1993 a new TT 600 was manufactured in the factory of the Italian importer Belgarda . It was clearly more suitable for everyday use than the first two variants from the 80s and much sportier than the XT 600 that was offered at the same time. This time, Yamaha officially accepted the model. Since the TT 600 S ("S" for Sport) , which was exclusively equipped with a kick starter, only sold slowly, it was given the sister model TT 600 E with an electric starter and cut spring travel from 1994 onwards . This was four kilograms heavier because of the starter and the battery.

In 1998, the TT 600 R was a sportier new edition with a modified chassis and design; from 2003 this was replaced by the roadworthy TT 600 RE with an electric starter and again cut spring travel. In 2005 the TT was officially over, the air-cooled and carburettor-equipped single-cylinder was considered to be out of date. The successor is most likely to be seen in the Yamaha XT 660 Z Ténéré , although this is considerably heavier and therefore less suitable for off-road use.
