Yamaha SRX 600

Yamaha SRX from 1986

The SRX 600 is a single-cylinder - motorcycle of the Japanese motorcycle manufacturer Yamaha , which was sold from 1985 to 1989 in Germany. Officially, a total of 2693 machines have been imported.

The parts of the frame and tank, which have a major impact on the visual impression of the street single cylinder, have been specially developed for the SRX, the engine has been borrowed from the Enduro Yamaha XT 600 with slight modifications . The visual independence, the high-quality workmanship, which largely dispensed with plastic, and the reduction to the essentials ensured that it was voted "Motorcycle of the Year" in 1985 by the largest German motorcycle magazine " Das Motorrad ".

The relatively high price, the low engine power compared to four-cylinder engines and the limited possibilities to take a passenger or luggage with you resulted in modest sales figures. The SRX 600 did not have an electric starter, which also made sales difficult. The types 1XL and 1XM were officially imported into Germany, but there are often imports from Japan (type 1JK) or Switzerland (2TM).

Further development

The successor model SRX 600 E (type 3SX) with electric starter was built in Japan from 1990 to 1995. The engine has been borrowed with slight changes from the Enduro Yamaha XT600E, type 3TB, built from 1990 onwards, and is based on the electric starter engines of the Yamaha XT600 Tenerife models 1VJ and 3AJ. A 400 cm³ model was only available in Japan as an identical version SRX 400 E type 3VN. The fact that the 3SX type was not officially imported to Germany also prevented sales figures worth mentioning here. The few gray importers only brought smaller numbers of 3SX to Germany.
