FJ 1200

The FJ 1100 and FJ 1200 are sports touring bikes from Yamaha .

In 1984 the super tourer FJ 1100 replaced the predecessor XS 1100 . The FJ weighs around 259 kg, but the motorcycle, also known as the “iron barrel”, is 27 kg lighter than its predecessor, the XS 1100. Over the years, the FJ has been improved again and again. A displacement increase to 1188 cm³ came in 1986. The models FJ 1100 (47E, 1984–1985) and FJ 1200 (1XJ, 1986–1987) were offered with an anti-dive system, which should prevent the fork from immersing too deeply when braking . All FJs are available in the 98 hp version and in the unthrottled variant with 126 hp.

If the Sporttourer FJ is equipped with a case system, this results in a solid travel motorcycle. From 1991 onwards the FJ 1200, type 3YA, with an anti-lock braking system (ABS) was also available, which offers the driver more safety.

Despite its relatively high weight, the FJ is not only suitable for long distances, it is also agile in winding terrain and its good center of gravity makes it easy to push into curves.

The simple but solidly built engine results in consistently high mileage. There are models with mileages of up to 400,000 kilometers. During this time, only wear parts such as the clutch, regular oil changes, etc. were usually necessary.

The following list contains the models that were officially imported into Germany:

  • Type 47E: FJ 1100 1984 and 1985
  • Type 1XJ: FJ 1200 1986 and 1987
  • Type 3CW: FJ 1200 1988 to 1990
  • Type 3YA: FJ 1200 / A 1991 to 1995

Other model types have been imported for other countries such as Austria, Switzerland or the USA.
