Yamaha XS

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The XS model series are motorcycle models from the Japanese motorcycle manufacturer Yamaha in the Naked Bike and Chopper category . The first motorcycle in this series was introduced by Yamaha in 1969 with the XS 1, the first Yamaha motorcycle with a four-stroke engine . The first series has become a motorcycle classic 40 years after it was launched. In the course of time, others were added to the first series, with the type designation TX sometimes also being used for closely related models. The Yamaha XS 750 was presented as a prototype under the name GX 750 . The XS model range was discontinued in 1983. In 2007, Yamaha presented a prototype in the tradition of the first model, the Yamaha XS-V 1 Sakura, at the Tokyo Motor Show .

Engine variants

All engines in this series are four-stroke engines in series construction . First, with the XS 1 series (later XS 2), a two-cylinder was introduced as a co-rotating parallel twin with 650 cm³ and two valves per cylinder and chain drive. All subsequent models were equipped with either two or four valves (XS / TX 500) per cylinder, one or two overhead camshafts and some with balance shafts. The models XS 250/360/400 and XS500 / TX 500 have two cylinders and a chain drive. The models XS 750 and XS 850 each have three cylinders and a cardan drive. The Yamaha XS 1100 was the largest model with four cylinders and cardan drive.
