Yamaha TZR
TZR is the name of a motorcycle from the Japanese motorcycle manufacturer Yamaha , which was built from 1986 to 2006 in the displacement classes 50, 80, 125, 250 & 350 cm³.
TZR125
The frame number that begins with either 4FL or 4DL shows where the machine was built. 4DL is the version of the Italian importer Belgarda and is very different from the Japanese 4FL model. The Belgarda version was equipped with high-quality spring and brake elements from the Italian manufacturer Paioli (41 mm USD fork) and Brembo (4-piston brake caliper on 320 mm brake disc) for a 125cc . Unrestricted, the Japanese 4FL model develops around 29 hp. After replacing the manifold and the chain sprocket, a power reduction to 17 kW (approx. 23 PS) can also be registered in Germany by means of an expert opinion. In this case, however, the driver must be in possession of a class A (restricted) driving license.
Model variants:
- 4FL (Japanese model) 1997-1998
- 4DL (Italian model) Bj. 1992 – approx. 1998
- 4DL SP (Italian model) manufactured in 1992–1993
- 4HE (Swiss model TZR 125 R, only like 4DL), was imported from 1992 to 1995
- 4HX (also Swiss model TZR 125, only like 4FL), was imported from 1994 to 1999
- 4HW (English model) 1996–1997
TZR125 SP
A very rare and heavily modified version is the TZR125SP. The abbreviation SP stands for "Sport Production." It is based on the Italian 4DL R model and differs greatly from its Italian sister in terms of engine and chassis technology. It served as a homologation model and was produced in the Belgarda factory in a number of only 500 copies. It has a sporty paintwork in the Italian national colors. The characteristic "Sport Production" lettering is on the rear and on the windshield.
Engine technical differences:
- coated cylinder with larger transfer ports, two additional secondary outlets and a larger outlet. Cylinder identification: 4DL00 - Gilardoni.
- YPVS outlet roller with two additional bores for the additional secondary outlets.
- Engine block with larger milled diaphragm inlet.
- Transmission with longer geared 2nd and 3rd gear.
- Cylinder head with a different combustion chamber structure (two cones instead of one). This is sealed with an O-ring in addition to the sheet metal gasket.
- special exhaust manifold with single-layer sheet metal and very open rear silencer.
- around 34 hp
Differences in chassis technology:
- fully adjustable 41 mm USD fork from Paioli.
- MC 50 type shock absorber adjustable in rebound and compression, also by Paioli.
TZR50
Yamaha's TZR50 has a liquid-cooled 49.7 cm 3 1-cylinder 2-stroke Minarelli AM6 engine. However, the engine can only achieve the nominal output of 5.94 kW (approx. 8.08 HP) when it is dethrottled. This is possible if the TZR is converted into the A1 version in Germany (conversion kit from Alpha Technology, for example) and approved accordingly. With a category AM driver's license (mopeds up to 45 km / h) or a class B driver's license (car), the TZR can be registered and driven at 45 km / h. In the open, dethrottled state, as it is still delivered today in Switzerland, for example, the TZR 50 achieves a real top speed of around 90–100 km / h.
According to Yamaha, the TZR is supposed to be the entry-level machine in Yamaha Supersport, which is why the fully faired TZR looks similar to the large Yamaha YZF-R1 . Technically, the TZR50 offers a number of features, such as a 6-speed gearbox and a disc brake system (280 mm at the front, 220 mm at the rear). The tires are extremely sporty and wide for a vehicle of the 50 cm 3 class, so the TZR has a 100 / 80-17 52H at the front and a 130 / 70-17 at the rear.
