Yamaha XJ 900
The XJ 900 is a motorcycle model from the Japanese motorcycle manufacturer Yamaha .
history
It came onto the market in 1983 and, as the largest model, formed the top of the successful XJ series. The vehicle was based directly on the technology of the Yamaha XJ 650 and was also initially touted as an athlete. The model gained a good reputation as a touring motorcycle with a sporty touch thanks to its reliability and suitability for everyday use.
Spare parts procurement
Like many other machines, this motorcycle has various minor weaknesses. Here are u. a to name the frame joist on the side of the side stand, into which moisture penetrates through ventilation holes in the swing arm bearing area. Over the years the frame girder rusts through at its deepest point from the inside to the outside, which often leads to broken side stand mounts. The same applies to the under-dimensioned weld seams on the main stand bearing. Motorcycles affected by this can often be recognized by the fact that the rear wheel is touching the ground even though the machine is on the main stand. However, this can also be caused by worn main stand bolts.
The supply of spare parts is almost only guaranteed via the used parts market, original new parts are increasingly rare. In the accessories trade, the supply of parts is also falling noticeably.
Occasionally the oil coolers tend to have hairline cracks in the flange. Sudden oil leakage along the inlet and / or outlet line is the result.
variants
The XJ 900 was initially available in two versions
- with handlebar cover and front spoiler, as XJ 900 F,
- and as a naked bike without fairing, as the XJ 900 N.
The handlebar cover of the XJ 900 F, which was originally attached to the front fork, initially caused chassis problems and was retrofitted with brackets for attachment to the frame under guarantee, but was later replaced by a half-shell cover.
