The Yamaha MT-07 ( FZ-07 in North America until the end of 2017 ) is a naked bike from the Japanese vehicle manufacturer Yamaha . At EICMA 2013, Yamaha presented this smaller two-cylinder motorcycle in addition to the MT-09 . The abbreviation "MT" stands for the English "Masters of torque", which means something like "Master of torque".

drive

The newly developed two-cylinder in-line engine has a crank pin offset of 270 degrees , something Yamaha calls this crossplane design. The irregular ignition interval provides the characteristic sound of a V2 engine with a 90 ° cylinder angle and a uniform, linear development of power and torque . The cylinders are offset a few millimeters to the rear from the axis of rotation of the crankshaft , which should lead to less friction losses. The motor was received extremely positively in the trade press and, in combination with the price, is the main factor behind the great sales success of the MT-07. The silencer is made entirely of stainless steel.

landing gear

The chassis of the MT-07 consists of a backbone tubular frame made of steel, in which the engine is integrated as a load-bearing element. The central spring strut under the seat , the lightweight 10-spoke cast aluminum wheels and the rear silencer installed under the engine mean that the masses are centralized. This concept originally developed by Buell leads to improved handling . The telescopic fork with Ø 41 mm immersion tubes is not adjustable, the rear suspension strut, which is supported on a two-arm swing arm made of deep-drawn steel, is only pretensioned.

In 2018, the chassis was revised, among other things, the shock absorber can now also be adjusted in rebound.

Others

The seating position is upright and slightly oriented towards the front. The digital LCD multifunction display includes, in addition to rev and speed display, the time, gear display , fuel gauge and an on-board computer with switchable display of total kilometers, 2 trip meters , outside temperature, coolant temperature, current consumption and average consumption. Even an "ECO display" has been integrated to inform the driver when he is driving in a particularly fuel-efficient manner. The fuel tank holds 14 liters.

In Germany, 3,199 units of the MT-07 were sold in 2018, which is second place in the registration statistics.

Colors and models

The design and chassis were revised for the 2018 model year. The fork and shock absorber have been made sportier, and the shock absorber now has a rebound adjustment. The headlight has been made larger and the taillight and its surround have been changed. The side air inlets have been enlarged and the seat has been redesigned.

When delivery began, the MT-07 was available in five color variations. The colors available vary every year, with only three color variations now available.

  • Deep Armor - black metallic / light purple, 2014–2015
  • Matt Gray - matt dark gray, 2014-2016
  • Racing Red, 2014
  • Competition White, 2014-2015
  • Race Blu (Tech Graphite) - dark gray / dark blue, 2014
  • Race Blu (Matt Silver) - silver with blue rims, 2015-2016
  • Extreme Yellow, 2015
  • Lava Red - Red Metallic, 2016
  • Night Fluo - gray with neon yellow rims, 2016–2018
  • Tech Black - Black Metallic, since 2017
  • Yamaha Blue - Blue, since 2017
  • Ice Fluo - ice gray with neon red rims, since 2019

MT-07 Moto Cage

One model variant is the MT-07 Moto Cage presented at the end of 2014 . It was equipped with equipment details from the stunt driver scene. The engine and chassis components are protected by a red (from 2016 yellow) tubular steel cage. The rims of the 2015 model were painted differently, since the 2016 model year they have been uniformly neon yellow ('Ice Fluo' paintwork). The variant was not continued from 2018.

Tracer 700

Yamaha XSR 700

The Yamaha Tracer 700 based on the MT-07 has been available since July 2016 . The sports tourer has an empty weight of 196 kilograms. The geometry of the tubular steel chassis of the MT-07 has been slightly adapted to the advertised application of the Tracer 700, the swing arm is 50 millimeters longer. The wheelbase therefore grew to 1450 millimeters, which should improve the straight-line stability. The spring elements, each with a travel of 130 millimeters, are softer than those of the MT-07. The Tracer 700 has an adjustable windshield, which relieves the driver's upper body of the airstream. The speedometer was also mounted higher than the MT-07; Hand protectors, a stepped one-piece seat bench and grab bars for the pillion also distinguish the model. Visually, the Tracer 700 is based on the larger sister model Tracer 900 based on the Yamaha MT-09 . The colors available are red, blue and black.

XSR 700

The XSR 700 also is technically based on the MT-07, but differs visually by numerous attachments in retro style greatly from this.
