The Dry Tunguska ( Russian Сухая Тунгуска ; Suchaja Tunguska) is an approximately 212 km long right or east-southeast tributary of the Yenisei in the Krasnoyarsk region in Siberia , Russia ( Asia ).

course

The dry Tunguska arises from the confluence of two mountain streams in the western part of the Central Siberian Mountains around 80 km northwest of Noginsk , located on the neighboring Lower Tunguska river . The brook union is located at an altitude of about 470  m between a maximum of 679  m high mountains.

In the Tunguska region , it runs in a predominantly west-northwest direction through almost unpopulated areas of the mountainous region. After leaving it, it flows into the West Siberian lowlands , immediately turns north and a little later turns west in its lower reaches.

Finally, the dry Tunguska flows about 1 km north of the village Suchaja Tunguska at a height of about 7.5  m into the Yenisei coming from the south , which flows 1058 km further north into the Arctic Kara Sea .

Catchment area, flora and fauna

The catchment area of the Dry Tunguska covers around 7390 km². Their area of origin lies in the region of the permafrost with the lichens and mosses typical of the tundra , further downstream there are boreal coniferous forests (taiga) and forest tundra .

The river is covered by ice from October to May every year . When ice and snow melt, strong floods often occur in its middle and lower reaches. For example, perch fish (such as perch ), pike , carp fish (such as Phoxinus and gudgeon ), salmon fish (such as trout ) and burbot live in the river .

Because of the remoteness, there are hardly any settlements .
