The Tunisian national volleyball team is a selection of the best Tunisian players, which the Fédération Tunisienne de Volley-Ball represents in international tournaments and internationals.

history

World Championship

In 1970 Tunisia took part in a volleyball world championship for the first time , but did not get past 22nd place. Four years later the result was slightly better with 18th place, but in 1978 Tunisia was only the last place out of 24 teams. Also in 1982 Tunisia was placed 21st among also ran. After a long break, the Tunisians returned to the 2002 World Cup and reached 19th place. In 2006, in Japan , they reached the second round and 15th place, their best result so far.

Olympic games

When they first took part in the Olympic Games in Munich in 1972 , Tunisia came in last behind hosts Germany . In 1984 in Los Angeles , the Tunisians finished ninth, their best result so far. In the other four participations in 1988 , 1996 , 2004 and 2012 there was a twelfth and three eleventh places. At the African qualifying tournament in Cairo , Tunisia secured its starting place for the 2020 Olympic Games .

African Championship

The first African Cup of Nations took place in Tunisia in 1967 and the hosts won the title against Algeria. In 1971 Tunisia was able to defend the title against their hosts Egypt . When the continental championship was held again in Tunisia in 1976, Egypt took revenge. But in 1979 Tunisia became Africa champions for the third time, this time against Libya . In 1983 they had to give the trophy to the Egyptians in their country, but in 1987 (final against Cameroon) the Tunisians brought the title back to their own country. In 1989 they missed a tournament for the first time, and in 1991 they finished third. Two years later they were defeated by host Algeria in the final. In 1995 Tunisia - again in their own country against Egypt - became African champions for the fifth time and then defended the title twice in a row. After they were not there in 2001, the Tunisians defeated their permanent rivals Egypt in their country, but from 2005 to 2015 the Egyptians triumphed again. In 2017 Tunisia won the African Championship for the ninth time and the tenth in 2019.

World cup

The Tunisians first took part in the World Cup in 1969 and finished twelfth. In 1981 they achieved their best result in eighth place, which they could repeat in 1991. After that, Tunisia was always there, but did not get past eleventh place.

Nations League

Tunisia has never participated in the Nations League .

World league

Tunisia took part in the world league from 2014 to 2017 , but always ended up in the rear.
