The Kenyan national women's volleyball team is a selection of the best Kenyan women players represented by the Kenya Volleyball Association in international tournaments and internationals.

history

World Championship

At the 1994 World Cup , the Kenyans took part for the first time, but were eliminated without winning a set. The 1998 tournament also ended for them after the preliminary round. In Germany in 2002 and at the 2006 and 2010 tournaments in Japan, Kenya was also eliminated in the first round as the bottom of the group. After the missed tournament in 2014, the Kenyan women returned to the 2018 World Cup and won a game against Kazakhstan for the first time in the preliminary round .

Olympic games

Kenya took part in the 2000 Olympic tournament in Sydney for the first time and finished eleventh. The same result came in 2004 in Athens . The Kenyans then failed to qualify three times. As winners of the African qualifying tournament , they secured their starting place for Tokyo 2020 .

African Championship

The Kenyans first took part in the African volleyball championship in 1989 and finished fourth. In 1991 they won their first title against Egypt , which they successfully defended in 1993 against the same opponent. In 1995 and 1997 they continued their winning streak against Nigeria . After missing the tournaments in 1999 and 2001, they lost the 2003 final as hosts against Egypt. Against Nigeria in 2005 and as hosts against Algeria in 2007 , they were again African champions. They were not involved in the 2009 tournament. In 2011, 2013 and 2015 they won the title again against Algeria , Cameroon and again against Algeria. In 2017 and 2019 they had to admit defeat in the final against Cameroon.

World cup

In 1991 the Kenyan women played in the World Cup for the first time and finished twelfth. Four years later , they rose one rank. In 2007 and 2011 they took twelfth place again. In 2015 they finished tenth. They finished the World Cup 2019 in eleventh place.

Nations League

Kenya was not involved in the previous two editions of the Volleyball Nations League .

World Grand Prix

Kenya took part in the World Grand Prix three times from 2014 to 2016 , finishing in 25th, 21st and 20th place.
