The UHC Waldkirch-St. Gallen is a Swiss floorball team from Waldkirch and St. Gallen , whose men and women in the National League A play.
history
founding
The club was founded in 1997 through a merger of the two clubs UHC St. Gallen and TSV Waldkirch.
Ascent and descent
In the 2002/03 season, WaSa , as the club is called in the college hockey scene , made it to the NLA for the first time. After two seasons in the NLA, the Eastern Swiss had to accept the move to the NLB in the 2005/06 season.
Development from 2008
Two years later, in the 2007/08 season , the men managed to move up to the top division again. Wasa confidently prevailed in the league qualification against the bottom of the NLA, Basel Magic, in a best-of-five series with 3-0. The last and decisive promotion game attracted over 1,500 spectators.
Upheaval
Joe P. Stöckli becomes the new President of the UHC Waldkirch-St. Gallen appointed. He takes over from Markus Bürki, who announced his resignation at the end of 2013. The board will be completed again after three years.
Before the start of the 2014/15 season , Fabian Arvidsson was introduced as the new coach of the men's team. The first men's team barely prevented relegation in the playouts against Floorball Thurgau in 2015 . The NLB women, however, occupy fifth place. They only miss the playoff qualification by one place.
2015/16 season
The 2015/16 season was the UHC Waldkirch-St. Gallen finish in 11th place. In the playout of the first team met Fabian Arvidsson on the table tenth UHC Uster . The series ended 4 to 3 for the club from the canton of Zurich. As the loser of the best-of-seven series, there was another duel with Floorball Thurgau . The first two games ended with the better end for the team from the canton of St. Gallen. In the third encounter between the two teams, Floorball Thurgau was able to celebrate a victory for the first time. However, the UHC Waldkirch-St.Gallen won the fourth game with 6: 1. On Sunday, April 10th, 2016, the team won the game 5: 2 and won the series 4: 1. Thus, the men will remain in the National League A in 2016/17.
The women’s team reached seventh and second to last place in National League B. As a result, the team of the coaching duo Nivin Anthony and Lukas Studer had to go into the playouts. Opponent UHC Zugerland decided before the start of the playouts for the voluntary relegation to the third highest division.
Season 2016/17
Less than a week before the start of the season, on September 12, 2016, the club separated from President Joe P. Stöckli due to differing views on leadership and communication. The decision was made much less than a week before the start of the season. For the 2016/17 season , the club decided not to integrate foreigners into the squad to relieve the club's budget. At the beginning of the new one, however, the two Czechs Houra and Kralik joined the club, but without payment. Five days after the separation from President Stöckli, the men started the season, coached by Fabian Arvidsson and Nivin Anthony. With UHC Uster there was a direct duel for the playoffs. Thanks to seven goals in the last third, the game could be won 8: 3. Both men and women got off to an excellent start in the new season and were able to convince in their first matches.
The women's team, led by Lukas Studer (assistant Tim Schoch, mental coach Nivin Anthony, physique Stephanie Huber, goalie training Michael Egli) celebrated 14 wins in a row and surprisingly finished the qualification in first place. After the playoffs and the victories in the playoff semifinals over the Floorball Riders DBR, the promotion to the top division was certain.
Season 2017/18
The women played their first game in the National League A on September 16, 2017, which was lost 10-1 to piranha chur.
