UNESCO L'Oréal Prize
The UNESCO L'Oréal Prize is an award given to women scientists . Initially under the name Helena Rubinstein International Awards for Women in Science , since 2000 under the title For Women in Science ("For Women in Science"), prizes and grants have been awarded annually to female researchers from all continents since 1998 . The aim of the cooperation program of the World Organization for Education , Science , Culture and Communication UNESCO and the cosmetics company L'Oréal is to work towards improving the position of women in research .
Every year, five US $ 100,000 prizes are awarded for the life's work of researchers in the life and materials sciences. There are also 15 grants of up to US $ 40,000 for young female researchers in the life sciences for a stay abroad of up to two years.
Since around 2004 there have been additional funding programs at national level. In Germany, L'Oréal and the German UNESCO Commission, together with the Christiane-Nüsslein-Volhard Foundation, have been funding young women scientists with children with up to 20,000 euros since 2006. In Austria, young basic researchers in the fields of medicine, natural sciences and mathematics have been taking part in L'Oréal Austria in cooperation with the Austrian UNESCO Commission, in cooperation with the Austrian Academy of Sciences and with the support of the Federal Ministry for Science, Research and Economy funded with a grant of 20,000 euros.
