The submarine was built by HDW Kiel and laid down on January 10, 1972 . The launch took place on November 5, 1973 , the commissioning on January 27, 1974. The submarine belonged to the class 206 Alpha. It belonged to the 3rd submarine squadron and was stationed in Eckernförde.
Whereabouts
The submarine was decommissioned on January 31, 2006 after a 32-year service and made its last trip to Aliaga, Turkey, to be scrapped. The submarine type 206 Alpha was replaced by the new submarine class 212 Alpha .
