Uladzimir Wiktarawitsch Zyplakou ( Belarusian Уладзімір Віктаравіч Цыплакоў , Russian Владимир Викторович Цыплаков / Vladimir Viktorovich Zyplakow * 18th April 1969 in Inta , Russian SFSR ; † 14. December 2019 ) was a Russian - Belarusian ice hockey player , who during his career including for the Los Angeles Kings and Buffalo Sabers has played in the National Hockey League .
Career
Uladsimir Zyplakou began his career as an ice hockey player in the junior division of Torpedo Yaroslavl , for whose professional team he was active in the second Soviet division from 1985 to 1987. He then moved to HK Dinamo Minsk for four years , for which he competed in both the second highest and highest Soviet league and the CIS championship. In the summer of 1992, the attacker went to North America , where he was under contract for the following three years with the minor league teams Detroit Falcons from the Colonial Hockey League and Indianapolis Ice and Fort Wayne Komets from the International Hockey League . Then the Belarusian was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 1995 in the third round as a total of 59th player by the Los Angeles Kings . For the Los Angeles Kings Zyplakou played for four and a half years in the National Hockey League , before he was given up on January 24, 2000 in exchange for an eight-round vote for the NHL Entry Draft 2000 to league rivals Buffalo Sabers .
In the Buffalo Sabers franchise , the Belarusian spent the following one and a half seasons, where he missed much of the 2000/01 season due to a knee injury that he sustained at the beginning of the season. From 2001 to 2004, the two-time Olympian was on the ice at Ak Bars Kazan in the Russian Super League . With the team he was runner-up in the 2001/02 season. In the final he was defeated with Kazan his ex-club from Yaroslavl, where he had started his career and in the meantime had been renamed Lokomotive. He started the 2004/05 season at HK CSKA Moscow in the Super League, but played in the playoffs for HK Junost Minsk in the Belarusian Extra League . With the club from the capital he became champions . Zyplakou contributed to winning the title with three goals and two assists in seven games. He then ended his career at the age of 36.
He has been named Belarus' ice hockey player of the year several times.
International
For the Soviet Union Zyplakou took part in the Junior World Championship in 1989 , where he became world champion with his team. For Belarus he competed at the B World Championships in 2002 and 2004 and the A World Championships in 1999 , 2000 , 2003 and 2005 . He was also on the Belarusian squad for the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano and 2002 in Salt Lake City .

Since the end of his playing career, Zyplakou worked as an ice hockey coach. Between 2005 and 2011 he was the assistant coach of the Belarusian national team , at the same time he was in charge of the U20 and U18 national teams of Belarus.
At the same time he was regularly employed as a club trainer, among others at HK Awangard Omsk , HK Dinamo Minsk and Severstal Tscherepowez . Since 2014 he has been a member of the HK Traktor Chelyabinsk coaching staff .
