geography
course
The source of the Ulfa is on the Schotterberg south of Schotten - Einartshausen and north of Schotten-Rainrod. It initially flows in a slight curve in a westerly direction through a wooded area. In this area the Ulfatal has the typical V-shape of a Kerbtal . The Ulfa flows through the Burkhards Bauwald and flows north past Nidda -Stornfels. Here it changes its course to the south, which from now on remains its main direction. The forest gives way to a meadow and arable landscape . It flows in an arc to the west past the Höllenwald . It is fed by the Greinbach south of the Stockwiesenkopf . It now reaches the urban area of Nidda-Ulfa. South of the village, the Kalte Grund joins the Ulfa from the left. The Ulfa now flows through the Ulfa flood retention basin, which was built in 1965 and can hold back a maximum of 994,000 m³ of water. Below the outlet structure, it flows east past the Haubenmühle settlement . South of Weißmühle it is reinforced on the right by the Diebach . The Ulfa finally flows into the Nidda on the northern edge of Nidda-Unter-Schmitten. From the mouth of the Ulfa to the root of the flood retention basin Ulfa, the water board NIDDA is responsible for the maintenance of the water as well as for the maintenance and operation of the flood retention basin.
