Ulla-Karin Rönnlund , née Ulla-Karin Thelin , (born February 19, 1977 in Härnösand ) is a Swedish former soccer player . The goalkeeper , who won four championships with Umeå IK and reached the final of the 2007/08 UEFA Women's Cup , took part as a substitute goalkeeper with the Swedish national team in a World Cup final , two European Championship tournaments and the 2000 Olympic Games .

Career

Under her maiden name Ulla-Karin Thelin, she started playing football at Älandsbro FF . From 1996 she played for Bollsta IK before moving to Umeå IK in Damallsvenskan in early 1998 . At the end of the 1998 season , she received the award as Newbie of the Year. After she had already played in the Swedish youth national teams, she also made her debut in October of that year in the 2-0 defeat against Norway in the jersey of the national team. As a substitute goalkeeper behind Ulrika Karlsson , she was part of the squad of Marika Domanski Lyfors for the 1999 World Cup , but was not used in the course of the tournament. In the following year, she was left with the role of substitute woman at the Olympic Games in Sydney.

In the 2000 season , Thelin celebrated the greatest success of her career to date when she won the Swedish championship title for the first time in the club's history, alongside Tina Nordlund , Hanna Ljungberg and Malin Moström , one point ahead of the women's team at Malmö FF . While she was successful with her club in the following season, she sat at the 2001 European Championship as a substitute goalkeeper behind Caroline Jönsson again only on the bench and became vice European champion without a minute. At the end of the year, she ended her career so that she could devote herself to her family.

At the end of 2006 Umeå IK brought their mother of two, who was called Ulla-Karin Rönnlund after their marriage, back to the football field. At first she was a substitute goalkeeper behind Carola Söberg when the team won their third championship title in a row at the end of the 2007 season. In the course of the following season she became a regular and reached the final of the UEFA Women's Cup alongside Madelaine Edlund , Anna Paulson , Karolina Westberg and Lisa Dahlkvist . After a 1-1 draw against 1. FFC Frankfurt in the first leg, she missed winning the title due to a 2: 3 away defeat in the second leg. Nevertheless, at the end of the season she was named champion for the fourth time and goalkeeper of the year on the other. In July 2009 she finally returned to the national team under national coach Thomas Dennerby . As the third substitute goalkeeper behind Hedvig Lindahl and Kristin Hammarström , she was subsequently in the squad at the 2009 European Championship , but was again in a tournament without playing time. After the 2009 season ended as runner-up, she announced her resignation again in November of that year after 86 first division games and one first division.
