Ulrich Otto von Dewitz (born June 14, 1671 in Groß Daberkow ; † August 5, 1723 in Dölitz ) was a Danish lieutenant general , chief of the Oldenburg cuirassier regiment and heir to Mitram and Holzendorf in Mecklenburg .

Life

His parents were Henning von Dewitz (1626–1698) heir to Groß Miltzow , Duberkow and Genschau and his wife Dorothea von Levetzow . The Danish general Franz Joachim von Dewitz was his brother.

He joined the army in 1690 and was adjutant in the 2nd Cavalry Regiment in 1692 and was paid English-Dutch pay during the War of the Palatinate Succession . In 1693 he became a cornet in the regiment, and in 1696 he became a lieutenant in the regiment (CR Württemberg). In 1698 he was transferred to his brother in the 2nd Fühn National Equestrian Regiment. On July 17, 1700 he was Rittmeister in the 1st Jutland National Regiment. But on February 5, 1701 he was a major in the 3rd Jutland National Regiment under Detlev von Brockdorf . With the regiment he came back to English-Dutch pay in Brabant during the War of the Spanish Succession from 1702. He fought in the battles of Höchstädt and Ramillies and received the character of a colonel on February 3, 1708 .

On June 14, 1709 he was still lieutenant colonel of the 5th Jutland National Regiment (von Preen), but on June 18, 1709 he became chief of the Oldenburg Cuirassier Regiment in Hungary. It came back to Denmark in the autumn of 1709. On July 27, 1710 he became a brigadier and received his resignation on December 19, 1711 . But he became major general on November 9, 1714 and in 1717 received the Danebrog Order . On November 6, 1719 he received his farewell as lieutenant general. In 1723 he died on the estate of his father-in-law, District Administrator Christian Wilhelm von Lehsten.

family

He married Anna Margrethe Catherine Countess von Wedel from the Wedelsburg house on March 5, 1706 (* 1660; † November 13, 1719 in Groß Miltzow). She was the daughter of Wilhelm Friedrich von Wedel (1640–1706). The couple had three sons and two daughters, including:

  • Henning Otto (December 30, 1707; † August 13, 1772), Prussian major general
  • Magarethe Dorothea ⚭ 1722 Johann Friedrich von Lehsten, budget
  • Ida Clarelia ⚭ 1733 Henning Kurt Friedrich von Dewitz († 1767) from the house of Großen Daberkow

After her death, he married Catherine Sofie von Lehsten on September 18, 1721 (* July 15, 1700; † October 15, 1753). His son Christian Friedrich Wilhelm (born April 10, 1723; † February 5, 1750) became a chamberlain in Eutin and married Frederike Henriette Ernestine von Lehsten from the Wadow family (parents of Otto Ulrich von Dewitz ).

The widow Cathrine Sofie von Dewitz married the Prussian major general Wilhelm Ludwig von Bissing .
