Environment & Active

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Umwelt & Aktiv (U&A) is a right-wing extremist ecological magazine. Thematically and stylistically, the magazine takes up Nordic and Germanic mythologies . It was founded in 2007 and appears quarterly as a newsletter from the Midgard e. V. based in Traunstein , but reaches a wider spectrum of people.

history

The magazine appeared for the first time in 2007. At the time, its subtitle was "Environmental Protection - Animal Welfare - Homeland Security". Today it is added: “The magazine for holistic thinking. Environmental protection, animal welfare, homeland security ”.

The magazine is considered to be the main ecological publication of right-wing extremism in Germany. The aim of the magazine is “to show how animal welfare and environmental protection are instrumentalized for foreign interests and interested parties who operate in secret, to the detriment of our homeland and our people” . The idea of a conspiracy of international capital, which is typical of the scene, is already expressed here , which is used in right-wing circles as a code word for the anti-Semitic thesis of a Jewish world conspiracy . In addition to comments against slaughtering, there are articles about "Germanic first names" or about neo-pagan annual festivals. Climate protection is called "nonsense from the start". In the 3/2017 edition, “ Hermann Göring , who was sentenced to death by the victorious powers ” was praised, who stood out as “Minister for Forest and Hunting” through a “strong inner closeness to nature” and “love for forest and game” and as “trustee of German forest and protectors of wonderful natural monuments ”. Other articles in this issue were titledHow Migration is Eating Our Land ” and “ Eternal Forest and Eternal People ”. The magazine sees the Greens as a party-political enemy , whom the magazine accuses of ecological “treason”. The ÖDP is also accused of “having landed difficultly in the wake of political correctness ” and of having called its co-founder Herbert Gruhl , who in 1989 did not want to support the demarcation from right-wing parties and resigned as chairman, as a “deviator”.

In the 2/2019 edition, the paper wrote under the heading “Heimatschutz”: “[...] and if the eastern metropolises are as expensive as the western ones in the foreseeable future - and just as 'ethnically tilted' - it will no longer just be those in the The mainstream press regularly abused 'ethnic settlers' who appreciate the advantages of rural life among ethnically and culturally related people. "

According to the Office for the Protection of the Constitution, the board of the publishing "Verein Midgard eV" is composed of "mostly right-wing extremists". "Midgard eV" sued against the mention of the association and the magazine "Umwelt & Aktiv" in the Bavarian Constitutional Protection Report 2012. In a judgment of 14 January 2016, the Munich Administrative Court ruled the association right. The Free State of Bavaria appealed against this and was right.

Connections to the NPD and right-wing extremist scene

The magazine claims to be “politically independent”. However, the first edition from 2007 already contained some almost literal passages from the party program of the NPD. Some of the authors have close contact with the NPD . The NPD members Sascha Roßmüller and Bettina Rauch wrote articles for Umwelt & Aktiv. The long-standing NPD cadre Peter Haese is active in the editorial team , as is his wife Berthild Haese (pseudonym Laura Horn ), who gave interviews to the German voice and the national newspaper , among others . Furthermore, there are links to the U&A website on various websites of Autonomous Nationalists and Free Forces . In March 2012, the magazine was praised and recommended in the magazine Junge Freiheit . The neo-Nazi party The III. Weg posted several information about the publication on the Internet and linked to their website. The "editor" Christoph Hofer ran for the NPD in Bavaria. In addition to Hofer, Hans-Günther Laimer, who was also a candidate for the NPD, was a member of the board of the “Midgard eV” sponsoring association. The Bavarian Office for the Protection of the Constitution calls the magazine "NPD camouflage magazine". The magazine also interviewed Sebastian Zeilinger, an activist of the far-right Identitarian Movement , who spoke of “young European patriots” and introduced the Identitarian Project Alternative Help Association (AHA) as a “right-wing NGO ”.

Interview partner

Among the people who gave an interview to Umwelt & Aktiv are the right-wing publicist and activist Jürgen Elsässer and the co-founder of the environmental movement in the GDR Michael Beleites . The magazine was also able to win some people from the left as interview partners, such as the former Communard Rainer Langhans and the author Holger Strohm . Other interviewees (according to Röpke / Speit from “Naivety and Goodwill” or “uncritical towards the magazine”) were ornithologist and behavioral researcher Peter Berthold , historian and philosopher Reinhard Falter , nutritionist Andrea Flemmer , author and animal rights expert Helmut F. Kaplan , the economist Karl-Heinz Paqué and the philosopher and globalization critic Vandana Shiva .

Discussions with the experts are often used by the lawyer Heiko Urbanzyk out, the sooner the NS - Black Metal - Fanzine " bloodshed " published and NSU process as representation defender Ralf Wohlleben occurred.
