... and Santana kills them all (original title: Un par de asesinos ) is the Spanish-Italian production of a spaghetti western from 1970, directed by Rafael Romero Marchent . The film, which is often listed under the wrong protagonist name “Sartana”, was shown for the first time in German-speaking countries on May 9, 1971. An uncut version is available on DVD .
action
After participating in a successful $ 100,000 raid, Santana and Marcos are abandoned by their accomplices, the Burton brothers, during a fight with the sheriff's deputies. While Santana escapes arrest, Marcos is captured. He can free himself again in a tricky way and sets out with his partner in search of the Burtons who are in possession of all the prey. With the help of pretty Maria, whom they met on the way, they manage to get the money. Marcos, however, wants everything to himself and knocks out Santata; then he flees with Maria, who in turn dupes Marcos and can move on alone with the money. Looking for the money again and reunited, Santana and Marcos track down Maria in their saloon that was bought with the proceeds of the robbery. They persuade Maria to set off with them again, but soon afterwards she gets tired of both of them and finally goes her own way.
criticism
Little enthusiasm among the critics, who accused the film of combining "in its episodic structure, humorous jokes with brash dialogues and exaggerated harshness" or of compensating for the "complete lack of originality" with particular violence and rudeness.
Remarks
In Italy the film was shown as Lo irritarono… e Santana fece piazza pulita . In other language versions such as the French one, Santana changes its identity and becomes Sabata .
Peter Boom interprets the film song Ride along . The German-language synchronization by Rainer Brandt defuses the brutalities of the film.
