The 1990/91 season was the 54th season of the Hungarian Ice Hockey League , the highest Hungarian ice hockey league . Ferencvárosi TC became champion for the 20th time in the club's history . The Sziketherm HC Dunaújváros and Újpesti Dózsa SC II relegated to the 2nd division.

mode

First, the eight teams played a common main round, before the four best-placed teams played in the final round, the two first-placed teams qualified for the championship final, while the remaining four teams competed in a relegation round, the two last-placed teams relegated to the 2nd division. The results from the main round were transferred to the final or relegation round. Each team received two points for a win, one point for a draw and zero points for a defeat.
