The University Choir Halle "Johann Friedrich Reichardt" is a non-professional mixed German choir . It consists of around 100 students and former employees from all faculties of the University of Halle .

history

The choir was founded in 1951 by Carlferdinand Zech and has been directed by Jens Lorenz since 1984. Jens Arndt is at his side in the artistic direction. The choir organizes around 15 to 20 concerts with up to five different programs in each concert year.

Concert tours have taken the choir to Italy, Austria, Belgium, France, Bulgaria, Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Denmark, Great Britain, Slovakia and Switzerland.

repertoire

The repertoire of the University Choir of Halle includes several orchestral works by various classical and modern composers, an extensive a cappella repertoire as well as various modern works and the like. a. from the styles of jazz , gospel and pop music .

The a cappella repertoire of the university choir includes vocal compositions from the Renaissance, motets and madrigals, sacred and secular compositions from the Romantic period, German and international folk songs and spirituals as well as contemporary works. In the meantime the choir has expanded its repertoire to include the genre “jazz”. Together with Cristin Claas and the group L'arc six, the Halle University Choir played the final concert of the “ Women in Jazz ” festival in February 2011. Other joint projects followed.

In addition, the choir is dedicated to maintaining and performing the great vocal works by Johann Friedrich Fasch and other composers from Central Germany . Recordings of these works can also be found on the eight CDs of the Halle University Choir.

Collaborations

The choir has already worked with several well-known conductors and orchestras. The ensemble entered u. a. up with the conductors Trevor Pinnock , Marcus Creed , Thomaskantor Georg Christoph Biller , Paul Goodwin, Golo Berg , Wolfgang Katschner and Michael Schneider. The choir played together with the orchestras Anhaltische Philharmonie Dessau, Collegium 1704 - Prager Barockorchester, the Handel Festival Orchestra , the Lautten Compagney , the Barock Consort of the Bremen University of the Arts, the La Folia de Lille orchestra (France), the Bad Reichenhaller Philharmonie , the Johann Friedrich Fasch Ensemble and the Academic Orchestra Halle. Joint collaborations arose above all at the baroque music festivals Handel Festival and the International Fasch Festival . Radio recordings were broadcast by MDR Figaro and DeutschlandRadio Berlin .

In the modern music field, the Halle University Choir not only worked with Cristin Claas and L'arc six, but also with the Japanese jazz pianist Makiko Hirabayashi . In 2015, Martin Völlinger's “The Latin Jazz Mass” was performed together with the Anke Helfrich Trio . In 2016, the project “In a Sea of ​​Tones” combined classic and modern through a collaboration between Cristin Claas and L'arc six with the Staatskapelle Halle .

Awards

At the International Choir Competition in Verona 2007, the University Choir of Halle received the rating "Gold - Excellent" and received the special prize of the jury for the best interpretation of the compulsory piece.

In April 2008 the chamber choir of the Halle University Choir was awarded the “Golden Diploma” in the highest category at the international choir competition “SLOVAKIA CANTAT” in Bratislava.

In November 2009 the university choir won the main prize and two gold diplomas in the categories "Mixed Choir" and "Folk Song" at the 23rd International Choir Competition "PRAGA CANTAT".

In 2010 the chamber choir took part in the international choir festival in Spittal an der Drau in Austria as one of eleven nominated choirs. In 2013 the university choir took part in the “International Choral Festival” in Montreux , Switzerland. In October 2015 the choir took part in the 10th International Choir Festival "Côte d'Azur" in Nice , France.

In April 2018, the Halle University Choir achieved the “Gold - Excellent” rating at the international choir competition in Verona and received the jury's special prize for the best interpretation of the compulsory piece, which was also endowed with a cash prize. The choir also received the jury's special prize for the best choir at the festival and for the best program selection. This award has only been awarded twice since the award was established in 2014.
