Prophecies of Doom - Time of Reconciliation is a German-Polish feature film based on the story of the same name by Günter Grass from 2005.

The in Gdansk -born professor of art history Alexander Reschke, who in Bochum lives is, to 1989 in his home town for a book to research . He met the Polish restorer Aleksandra Piatkowska, who was born in Vilnius , and fell in love with her. Due to their joint displaced persons biography, they came up with the idea of founding a Polish-Lithuanian-German cemetery society to give displaced persons from the respective country a final resting place in Gdansk and Vilnius. First of all, they look for a suitable site in Gdansk for a reconciliation cemetery and then go in search of comrades-in-arms who can contribute the necessary capital. You can find them in the building contractor Vielbrand from Braunschweig , the Polish banker Marczak, the Evangelical Lutheran church councilor Karau, the Polish Catholic priest Bieronski and a representative of a German expellee organization, Johanna Detlaff. In addition, a post-communist and Erna Brakup, a native of Gdańsk, will be represented on the company's supervisory board. Erna Brakup also acts as the voice from the off, with their prophecies of doom, pulling the strings of the plot.
Society is growing rapidly and there are numerous interested parties. Problems arise when Germans use provocative grave inscriptions to encourage Polish rioters to desecrate their graves. The success brings the shareholders on the supervisory board to further business ideas. They want to build old people's homes and golf hotels for the mourners. Alexander and Aleksandra then leave the company. They get married and go on their honeymoon in Italy . There they have a fatal car accident and are buried in a cemetery in Italy.

Awards
The film was nominated for the Polish Film Awards in four categories. Best female lead (Krystyna Janda), best male supporting role (Marek Kondrat), best music and best equipment.
The German Film and Media Assessment FBW in Wiesbaden awarded the film the rating particularly valuable.
