Under Other Circumstances is a German television film by Judith Kennel from 2006. It is the first episode of the crime series Under Other Circumstances with Natalia Wörner in the lead role.

action

The three-month-old Felix Ahrens disappears from the stroller and despite an intensive search, he is found dead four days later. For Commissioner Jana Winter this is an emotionally stressful situation because she is very pregnant herself. According to the regulations, she is only allowed to do office work, but she is determined to solve the case.

After the routine clarification of paternity, her friend Till Jensen is not the father, as indicated by the mother. He is not surprised when Jana Winter confronts him with this fact. When asked by the inspector, Susanne Ahrens reveals that a Ricky Rehberg is the biological father of her child, but this statement is not true either. When it is clear after the autopsy of the baby that the boy was suffocated, Susanne Ahrens moves even more into the eye of the investigator and she finally admits that Felix actually suffocated herself. Desperate, she explains that her own father is also the father of her child. She was afraid that her boyfriend would find out in a scheduled paternity test and that she would lose him.

background

At the time of filming, the leading actress Natalia Wörner was pregnant herself, which had an impact on the title of the film. No sequels were initially planned.

Reviews

Rainer Tittelbach from Tittelbach.tv wrote: Under different circumstances is "an atmospherically dense, emotionally exciting crime drama that contrasts the topics that get under your skin with a rather cool visual language and thus creates a reflexive tone."

The critics of the television magazine TV Spielfilm rated: "Complex crime thriller with a dense atmosphere, the somewhat over-constructed ending is not so important." Conclusion: "The birth of a convincing series."

At Kino.de one came to the judgment: "The crime thriller lives above all from the logically very authentic looking investigator, who should face the harsh social reality in her cases in the future."
