The Murderer Among Us is a German television film by Judith Kennel from 2013. It is the eighth episode of the crime series Under Other Circumstances with Natalia Wörner in the lead role.

action

Commissioner Jana Winter has to solve the murder of the young Sarah Rosenfels. The circumstances are very similar to a case from the past, so that the perpetrator from then becomes the main suspect. Since Ulrich Wolf has been at large for half a year and even lives in the neighborhood of the victim, it is clear to the residents of the small town that only he can be the perpetrator. A citizens' movement was immediately brought into being against the man, which made the work of the police even more difficult. On the one hand, they have to convict the perpetrator and, on the other hand, protect the main suspect against the angry people.

Jana Winter is convinced that Ulrich Wolf is not the murderer and suspects a copycat perpetrator. Various indications speak for it.

The victim was a very pretty young woman and had numerous admirers. Her friend, Anton Seidel, shouldn't have liked that. The investigators get to know him as a sensitive but also irascible young man. It turns out that he has Asperger's Syndrome and is currently under psychiatric treatment. But the postman Frieso Jansen is also suspect. He admits that he had an affair with the victim that his wife neither knows nor should find out about. So he hadn't called the ambulance immediately, even though he'd found Sarah Rosenfels first. That delay had ultimately cost her her life.

In search of clear evidence against one of the suspects, the investigators neglect the protection of Ulrich Wolf. Since his alibi for the time of the crime has been confirmed, the police have no suspicions of any kind in the current murder case. However, the local people see it differently. They threaten Wolf and even beat him up.

The next day a witness reports and incriminates the village doctor Viktor Kirsch, whom she had met as a very sadistic person. At the same time, Jana Winter also tracked him, because she had noticed that he had provided small pieces of evidence against Ulrich Wolf on several occasions. A house search at Kirsch brings to light the diary of the victim and rows of photos that Kirsch had secretly taken of Sarah Rosenfels. The inspector has to shoot him when he gets access and he confesses to her dying that he supposedly couldn't have done anything else.

Reviews

Rainer Tittelbach from Tittelbach.tv judged: “'Under different circumstances', develop a scenario as one has seen it hundreds of times. So that it doesn't get so noticeable, author Zora Holt has compiled as much of the plot as possible. This actionism is one thing, the overused random principle is another. A hollow, uninspired utility crime, as one is not used to from this series! "

In Stimme.de Petra Essel man wrote: "In 'The Killer Among Us', the eighth result of both successful and high-class ZDF crime series, it's about to face a sex offender - and the difficult to impossible task to be a former justice . "

The critics of the television magazine TV Spielfilm , on the other hand, rated it positively and wrote: “An intensive film that intelligently deals with prejudice, responsibility and obsessions.” Conclusion: “Exciting, disturbing, provocative.”
