Karl August von Brandenstein

Karl August von Brandenstein (born January 24, 1792 in Nauen , † March 30, 1863 in Berlin ) was a Prussian lieutenant general and commander of the 5th division .

Life

origin

His parents were Wilhelm August von Brandenstein (1738–1815) and his wife Friederike, née von Hake (1761–1831). His father was a Prussian lieutenant colonel a. D. , last in the infantry regiment "Ferdinand of Prussia" . Lieutenant General Friedrich von Brandenstein (1786–1857) was his brother.

Military career

Brandenstein visited the cadet house in Berlin on June 11, 1803 and on April 19, 1811 was transferred as a second lieutenant to the Leib-Infanterie-Regiment (No. 8) of the Prussian Army . On March 16, 1812, he was transferred to the Guard Regiment . During the Wars of Liberation , Brandenstein fought in the battles near Großgörschen and Leipzig .

After the war, he became Premier Lieutenant on March 18, 1816 and captain and company commander on February 18, 1821 . On March 20, 1834, he received the Order of the Red Eagle, IV class, a few days later was promoted to major and appointed commander of the 2nd battalion in the 7th Landwehr Regiment. On March 30, 1840 Brandenstein was commander of the Guard Rifle Battalion and in this capacity on March 30, 1844 Lieutenant Colonel. He was also accepted into the Order of St. John on September 30, 1846 . Brandenstein was promoted to colonel on March 27, 1847 with the command of the 38th Infantry Regiment and on September 23, 1847 was appointed regimental commander.

During the revolution in Baden in 1849 he fought in battle near Durlach and took part in the occupation of Bruchsal . Brandenstein received the order of the Zähringer lion for his work . On December 4, 1849 he was commander of the 13th Infantry Brigade and on December 15, 1849 the 28th Infantry Regiment aggregated . On November 4, 1851 Brandenstein rose to major general and was given command of the 25th Infantry Brigade on May 4, 1852 . On July 12, 1855 he was commander of the 9th Division and on July 12, 1855 promoted to lieutenant general. From May 7, 1857 to July 2, 1858 he acted as commander of the 5th Division. Then the star of Red Eagle, First Class with swords was at ringside with the legal Brandenstein under ceremony board for disposition made. He died on March 30, 1863 in Berlin and was buried on April 1, 1863 in the Invalidenfriedhof .

Brandenstein married Bernhardine von Rieben (1896-1853) on June 9, 1818 in Tschilesen , Wohlau district . The couple had several children:
