action

On her 30th birthday, the Czech Anica receives a card from her father, as every year. She never got to know him personally and knows that he lives with his family in Bavaria. Her mother had sent him back to his family because she did not want to destroy his marriage and knew that she was not made to be a wife herself. However, Anica is disappointed and angry that her father never went to see her. She spontaneously decides to go to see him and is supported in her plan by her friend Jan. She consciously ignores the agreement between her father and mother never to make personal contact with each other.

Anica and Jan drive to Bavaria and stop at a large villa to ask for directions. It turns out that the large estate belongs to her father Claudius. His granddaughter Sophie spontaneously invites Anica and Jan to the villa after Jan pulled a balloon out of a tree for her. The heart balloon is one of 49 more that Sophie has just given to Claudius and his wife Christine: Both are celebrating their golden wedding with numerous guests . Anica wants to turn around immediately, but it's already too late. Sophie urges her to introduce herself and Claudius immediately recognizes Anica as his daughter. Christine, on the other hand, becomes suspicious of Anica's surname “Sycora”, as a garnet jewelry that the jeweler Claudius once brought for her from Prague came from the Sykora goldsmith's workshop. Anica says that her mother made the jewelry and leaves in a rush. Claudius confesses to Christine that Anica is his daughter. Christine breaks off the celebration and distances herself from Claudius. Claudius' daughter Maren is also shocked because her marriage broke up once when her husband left her for someone else. Granddaughter Sophie, on the other hand, makes it clear to Claudius that he has to travel to Prague. Perhaps Anica needs him and she herself knows what an important role a father plays in the life of a child.

Claudius and Sophie go to Prague and Christine does not hold them back. Sophie meets Jan again in Prague and they both fall in love, even if Sophie knows that Jan and Anica are a couple. There is a cautious rapprochement between Claudius and Anica, which soon ends in reproaches. Anica wants too much too fast, while Claudius feels overwhelmed by her pace. Anica reacts disappointed. Claudius and Anica's mother Editha greet each other like long-missing friends. As in the past, they go for a walk on the banks of the Vltava, dance together and only return to Editha's apartment after midnight. Editha made it clear to Claudius that she loves life as she is leading it and has never looked for a man for the rest of her life. Claudius decides to go back to Bavaria with Sophie the next day. Before that, he gave Anica a fatherly advice: Due to a gold allergy, Editha could no longer work as a goldsmith, so Anica felt obliged to follow in her footsteps. She doesn't enjoy her work, even if Jan works as a goldsmith at Sykora. Claudius now tells her that you only do well what you like to do. She shouldn't be afraid to go her own way.

Claudius and Sophie return to Christine. Meanwhile, she met again gardener Thilo Wagner, whose shop she once visited regularly, but then switched to another nursery that was closer. She always got on very well with Thilo and almost started an affair with him. However, she did not appear on the decisive night in which he was waiting for her. Now he brings her flowers and finally invites her to his nursery at night. That night the Queen of the Night shall bloom. Christine accepts the invitation, even if Claudius and Sophie have cooked especially for her. The jealous Claudius follows her and a little later sees Christine and Thilo sitting together by candlelight. However, both only talk about Christine's problem, about trust, loyalty and forgiveness. In the conversation Christine realizes that Claudius has withheld the truth from her because he could not trust that she would forgive him. The next morning she returns to the villa and wants to forgive Claudius when he makes it clear that he followed her the night before. She leaves disappointed because he didn't trust her.

Jan appears in the villa. He has broken up with Anica and wants to know from Sophie whether she is as honest with him as he is with her. Claudius does not want to hear of a connection between the two, as his granddaughter should not be to blame for the end of his daughter's relationship. Anica, in turn, speaks to her mother and realizes that, like Editha, she is a person who needs freedom and is not made for a steady relationship. She would have left Jan one day anyway. Since Jan, unlike her, likes to do goldsmithing, he will stay with Sykora while Anica will look for what she really likes to do. Anica calls Claudius and has Christine on the line. She apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause. Christine, however, forgives her and says that she can call anytime and that she is always welcome in her villa. Jan, in turn, hears from Anica over the phone that she wishes him and Sophie all the best. Christine has now realized that Claudius still loves her and that he regretted his affair at the time. She forgives him. She would have left him 30 years ago because of the affair, but had to do without 30 wonderful years at his side.

criticism

The film service called Utta Danella - Prague Secret a "shallow (television) family drama about the loss of trust and security and the struggle for lost harmony."

TV Spielfilm found that “the shallow heartbreak crisis film [splashes] across the generations, towards the inevitable happy ending. No, that doesn't reveal too much, you doze off while looking anyway, wake up, uh. Conclusion: Supports the nap in the TV chair. "
