Uwe Sauer (born February 23, 1963 in Karlsruhe ) is a German basketball coach and former player. The development player played 42 full international matches for the German national team.

career

Sauer played in the youth of the SSC Karlsruhe , where he already took part in viewing courses of the regional trainer Kurt Siebenhaar in Tailfingen, among others with the future teammate Wolf Armbruster at USC Heidelberg , then switched to USC Heidelberg, where he made his debut in the basketball league at the age of 18 gave. In December 1983 he made his debut in the German senior team, with which he took part in the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles . At the European Championships in 1985 , among other things in the domestic European hall , Sauer achieved fifth place with Germany.

In the 1984/85 and 1985/86 seasons, Sauer studied and played at Santa Clara University in the US state of California . In 1985 he was part of the German EM squad. After returning to Germany, he played in the Bundesliga for Saturn Cologne , Steiner Bayreuth , Brandt Hagen and SSV Ulm in 1846 . In 1997 he ended his playing career. In 1987 and 1988 he became German champions with Cologne, and in 1989 he won the DBB Cup with Bayreuth .

Trainer

Sauer was an assistant coach in Ulm from 1997 to 1999 before he became head coach at SV Tübingen , which he led in 2001 for promotion to the first division. In Tübingen he remained in office until 2003. In February 2004 he took over the post of head coach at Bundesliga club BG Karlsruhe . In the 2006/07 season he coached the second division club 1. FC Kaiserslautern , in the 2007/08 season he took over the coaching position at Central German BC , and in early April 2008 he was given leave of absence from the Weißenfelsern. From January 2009 to the end of the 2008/09 season he coached the Saar-Palatinate Braves , in the 2010/11 season he was head coach at BG Illertal in the 2nd Bundesliga ProB and in 2011/12 at USC Heidelberg in the 2nd Bundesliga ProA .

In addition to basketball, he devoted himself to making wooden sculptures, which he presented to the public in exhibitions.
