About this picture
Location of Völlinghausen in Erwitte

The place Völlinghausen is a village with 788 inhabitants in North Rhine-Westphalia . It is a district of the city of Erwitte and belongs to the Soest district .

location

Völlinghausen is 3 km south-west of Erwitte, framed in the north by Bundesstraße 1 , in the south by the Bundesautobahn 44 (Dortmund / Kassel) and in the west by the motorway slip road. The place can be reached from the B 1 via the state road  748 in the direction of Sichtigvor , about 1 km south of the B 1.

The Völlinghausen district also includes the Söbberinghof, located on federal road 55 between Erwitte and Anröchte.

history

Völlinghausen was first mentioned in a document in 978, when Emperor Otto II gave a main courtyard in Folkgeldinghuson to a monastery in Meschede , this was the first spelling of the place, which then developed from Volkgeldinghusen , Volkelinchusen zu Völlinghausen . Of course, this does not document the development of the place, but only an initial written testimony. The settlement on the old Hellweg , which used to pass even closer to the village before the road took its current course in Napoleon's time , is certainly older.

The old town center of Völlinghausen was still characterized by a loose building structure until the Second World War. As is still the case today, most of the farms were located south of Kliever Strasse, especially on Kapellenweg and Krautstrasse. The rest of the residential development was in the west and north in the area of the old Soestweg, now "Im Brok", as well as in Wiesenstraße and Benningerweg. In recent decades, new residential areas have emerged in the north and west.

Striking points of the village structure are the St. Stephen's Chapel in neo-Gothic style with the neighboring former school and the village square with the war memorial and the village community hall at the Altes Gasthaus Linnemann restaurant . To the east of the village, the Völlinghäuser Bach, which drains to the north and is partially bordered by steep banks, divides the landscape.

On January 1, 1975, the previously independent municipality of Völlinghausen became a district of the city of Erwitte in the course of the municipal reorganization in North Rhine-Westphalia.

coat of arms

The Völlinghauser coat of arms, introduced in 1994, shows a stylized mill wheel, which was derived from the seal of the Lords of Völlinghausen shown above. This seal is under a document from the year 1315. The local coat of arms has no official character, although it takes all heraldic rules into account, and is only used for representation.
