Vüqar Rəsulov

Vüqar Rəsulov (at the World Chess Federation FIDE Vugar Rasulov ; born April 5, 1991 in the Azerbaijani SSR ) is an Azerbaijani chess player .

The Elo rating of the chess master from Azerbaijan's second largest city Gəncə is 2504 (as of October 2017), his highest rating so far was 2537 in November 2011 and January 2012. In January 2009 he had improved by 38 Elo points at the Azerbaijani individual championship and in March 2009 at the European Championships by another 59 points. He played club chess in the Azerbaijani first division in 2006 for Sumqayıt and in 2008 for Gəncə. In 2013 and 2014 he took part in the European Club Cup with Odlar Yurdu .

In 2006 he took part with the Azerbaijani national team in the U16 Chess Olympiad in Ağrı , Turkey . On the third board he scored 6.5 points from 10 games. At the U16 European Youth Championship in 2006 in Herceg Novi , Montenegro , he reached third place. He won the U16 European Youth Championship in 2007 in Šibenik , Croatia , with a half-point lead over Sébastien Feller . At the 1st Sardaran e Shahid Chess Festival in Urmia in the same year he was third.

He achieved his first standard for the title of International Master (IM) at the U16 World Youth Championship in 2007 in Kemer , the second IM standard at the U18 European Youth Championship in September 2008 in Herceg Novi . At the Azerbaijani individual championship in January 2009, which was held in Baku , he reached third place, ahead of the grandmasters Nicat Məmmədov , Eltac Səfərli , Rəsul İbrahimov and Azər Mirzəyev . At the European Championships in Budva in 2009 he won against Radosław Wojtaszek , Dejan Pikula , Nikola Sedlak and Loek van Wely . With an Elo rating of 2665, he achieved a GM standard, with which, since he already had two IM standards, he was awarded the title of International Master at the following FIDE Presidium meeting. He achieved the second required standard for obtaining the grandmaster title in December 2010 at a tournament in Baku, and has been a grandmaster since 2011.
