Vasilios Torosidis ( Greek Βασίλης Τοροσίδης , born June 10, 1985 in Xanthi ) is a Greek football player .

Career

society

Torosidis began his career at Aris Petinou and then moved to Skoda Xanthi , where he was part of the professional squad from 2002. In the 2005/06 season and in the 2006/07 season he took part in the UEFA Cup with Skoda Xanthi . In January 2007 he moved to Olympiacos Piraeus , where he signed a contract until 2011. In 2007 he became champion with Olympiacos Piraeus and won the double in 2008 and 2009. In the 2007/08 season he was used for the first time in the Champions League .

On January 23, 2013 Torosidis moved to the Italian first division club AS Roma . In 2016 he switched to league rivals FC Bologna .

In 2018 Torosidis went back to his homeland and to his ex-club - to Olympiacos Piraeus . There, however, a knee injury plagued him, but even so he was not there and so in his two years there he only played 16 games without scoring.

National team

Torosidis made his debut on March 24, 2007 in the Greek national football team in the game against Turkey. He was also in the Greek squad for the European Football Championship in 2008 and played through the first two group games against Sweden and Russia , but was not used in the last group game against the eventual European champions Spain . Greece was eliminated in the preliminary round as bottom of the group. At the 2010 Soccer World Cup in South Africa, Torosidis was used in all three preliminary round matches and also scored the 2-1 winning goal in the game against Nigeria, the first ever Greek victory in a World Cup final. In 2010 the Olympiacos Piraeus international was named Footballer of the Year in Greece for the first time.
