Patriotic Artists Association
A two-volume collection of variations on a waltz by Anton Diabelli was published in Vienna in 1823 and 1824 under the title Vaterländischer Künstlerverein . Volume 1 comprised the 33 Diabelli Variations op. 120 submitted by Ludwig van Beethoven ; Volume 2 contained the variations of 50 other composers who came from Austria or worked there, and a coda by Carl Czerny . In 1819 Diabelli had sent letters of invitation to numerous “patriotic” musicians; The two volumes were finally published by his music publisher Cappi & Diabelli .
