The district of Velille is located in the province of Chumbivilcas in the Cusco region in south-central Peru . The district was founded on July 16, 1825. It has an area of 670 km². The 2017 census counted 8,332 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 7515, in 2007 it was 7914. The district administration is located in the small town of Velille at 3730 m with 3038 inhabitants (as of 2017). Velille is 22 km east-southeast of the provincial capital Santo Tomás .
Geographical location
The district of Velille is located in the Andean highlands in the south of the province of Chumbivilcas. The Río Velille River crosses the district in a northerly direction.
The district of Velille borders in the west on the district Santo Tomás , in the north on the district Chamaca , in the east on the district Livitaca and in the south on the district Coporaque ( province Espinar ).
