Locked oyster

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Locked oyster is one of the journalists association Netzwerk Recherche eV conferred negative award "for-respondents in politics and economy." The prize, which has been awarded since 2002, is a sculpture made from pure slate by the Marburg artist Ulrich Behner and is intended to encourage recipients to deal more openly with the press and media.

Award winners

2002 to 2009

  • 2002: Otto Schily for blocking the Freedom of Information Act and refusing interviews
  • 2003: Aldi Group for legal action against critical reporting and unpopular product tests
  • 2004: Albrecht Schmidt , the then chairman of the supervisory board of Bayerische Hypo- und Vereinsbank (representing “almost all DAX companies”) for restrictions on freedom of the press at general meetings
  • 2005: Gerhard Mayer-Vorfelder for restrictive DFB - information policy (national coach search, referee affair ) and legal action against Satire
  • 2006: Hartmut Mehdorn , the then CEO of Deutsche Bahn AG , for the withdrawal of advertisements from Deutsche Bahn AG after critical reporting, further restrictive granting of filming permits, refusal to comment on sensitive topics and (later abandoned) blocking of an exhibition on the historical role of the railway during the deportation of Jewish children to Auschwitz
  • 2007: Vladimir Putin , then President of Russia for continuing obstruction of the free press in Russia
  • 2008: International Olympic Committee , which has "for many years tolerated corruption and conflicts of interest in awarding the Games" and with its "information policy the opposite of fair play "
  • 2009: Federal Association of German Banks , because it was "not on the side of transparency and education" during the banking and financial crisis. It also says "They [the banking association and its members] refuse to admit their mistakes, explain failures and take responsibility."
The general manager of the federal association Manfred Weber personally accepted the award. He admitted that there were "many cases in which banks had communicated unhappily, inadequately or not at all", but rejected the blanket accusation against the banks as false that they had prevented clarification and withheld information.

From 2010

  • 2010: Roman Catholic Church that does not respect “the public's right to complete information” and “thus contradicts its own values of truthfulness and honesty”. "The Catholic Church has rarely shown willingness to provide information and instead hindered investigative journalists."
The spokesman for the bishops' conference Matthias Kopp accepted the award on behalf of the church and admitted that there was a need for improvement in church communication work. He summed up: “Yes, as the Catholic Church we have the biggest crisis since 1945. Yes, we have stood in front of the perpetrators for too long and have not looked at the victims. Yes, we made communication mistakes. "
  • 2011: the energy companies RWE , EnBW , Vattenfall and E.ON . The companies had “glossed over, influenced and concealed” and “excessive lobbying” with regard to nuclear policy . Guido Knott (E.ON) rejected the jury's allegations in a counter-speech. The award was not journalistic, but purely politically motivated and the association threw all its award criteria overboard.
  • 2012: The world football association FIFA , which blocked attempts by journalists to "research corruption and inconsistencies in the allocation of posts" and opposed the disclosure of court decisions.
The laudation was given by the sports manager and former FIFA employee Roland Rino Büchel , who is a member of the Swiss National Council for the Swiss People's Party (SVP) . The system of wages, expense allowances and bonuses at FIFA was "completely non-transparent", but critical media inquiries on the subject had not been answered, said Büchel. The Euro Europe had come the end of April in 124 points to a "damning verdict" on the football world organization and have pointed out that autonomy was there for the interests of the sport, "not for the interests of unscrupulous individuals." Büchel's appearance at the award ceremony met with criticism because he had carried out election campaigns with xenophobic motives in the past.
  • 2013: Hans-Peter Friedrich was chosen as the winner in 2013 because the Federal Ministry of the Interior takes a restrictive attitude towards journalists' right to information and does not want to apply the Freedom of Information Act. Furthermore, Friedrich tried to prevent the publication of the target agreements for the German Olympic participants in 2012 .
  • 2014: The ADAC received the price for the behavior after the revelations about manipulation of the Gelber Engel car price and the handling of critical media inquiries.
  • 2015: Heckler & Koch received the award after representatives of the company presented to the Military Counter-Intelligence Service (MAD) as part of the G36 affair in order to persuade it to stop critical reporting. The armaments manufacturer declined the invitation to speak back.
  • 2016: Facebook for the non-transparent handling of (the deletion of) hate comments .
  • 2017: Three rainbow press publishers : the Funke Mediengruppe (for the magazines Die Current , Das Goldene Blatt , Frau aktuell ), Hubert Burda Media Holding (for the Freizeit Revue ) and the Bauer Media Group (for Das Neue Blatt , Freizeitwoche , Neue Post , the new one ), also representing the other publishers in the industry. They “undermine [...] the trust in the credibility of the media: with misleading headlines, false or made-up texts, lack of demand from those affected, manipulation of photos and, not infrequently, violations of personal rights. There is often a lack of willingness to voluntarily correct incorrect reporting. "
  • 2018: "On behalf of all local politicians , the unwelcome reporting as lese majeste misunderstand and lack any respect for the work of the journalists leave" for the Swabian / Baden-Württemberg Burladingen previous incumbent mayor Harry Ebert: In his own words impressed too little, he told that he could not due provided mowing your own price accept in Hamburg and wanted and compared thereby with the acting President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin , who in 2007 had also not accepted the award in person.
  • 2019: Bavarian State Government : "The state government, supported by a coalition of CSU and Free Voters , continues to block the introduction of a freedom of information right as it already exists in most federal states."
