Vicente Rodrigo Cisneros Durán

Vicente Rodrigo Cisneros Durán (born February 23, 1934 in Pelileo ; † December 29, 2017 in Valle de Los Chillos ) was an Ecuadorian clergyman and Roman Catholic Archbishop of Cuenca .

Life

Vicente Cisneros received after his theological training on July 17, 1957 in the Cathedral of Quito , the ordination . He studied canon law and completed a doctorate in international law at the Spanish Pontifical University of Salamanca , at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome and at the University of Vienna, as well as studying social action at the Institut Catholique de Paris and the Luigi Sturzo Institute in Rome.

Pope Paul VI appointed him on December 1, 1967 auxiliary bishop in Guayaquil , in the southwest coastal country of Ecuador, and titular bishop of Tigisi in Mauretania . The Bishop of Ambato , Bernardino Echeverría Ruiz, OFM , ordained him episcopal on January 7th of the following year ; Co- consecrators were Pablo Muñoz Vega SJ , Archbishop of Quito , and Manuel de Jesús Serrano Abad , Archbishop of Cuenca .

On July 4, 1969, he was appointed bishop of Ambato in the Andean region. Pope John Paul II appointed him Archbishop of Cuenca on February 15, 2000. On April 20, 2009, Pope Benedict XVI. his age-related retirement. He held numerous positions in the Ecuadorian Bishops' Conference, including coordinator of various training programs with the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising .

He was the youngest Roman Catholic bishop in the world for several years.
