Villars-Sainte-Croix is a municipality in the district of Ouest lausannois in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland .
geography
Villars-Sainte-Croix is 509 m above sea level. M. , 7.5 km northwest of the canton capital Lausanne (linear distance). The village extends on the plateau on the southern edge of the Gros de Vaud in the Vaudois Central Plateau , between the valleys of Venoge in the west and Sorge in the east, in a panoramic position around 170 m above lake level of Lake Geneva .
The area of the 1.7 km² municipal area includes a section in the south of the Gros de Vaud, the granary of the canton of Vaud. The communal soil extends on the hill of Villars-Sainte-Croix and is limited to the east by the valley of concern cut into the plateau . The highest point in the community is at 550 m above sea level. M. below Les Esserts. In 1997, 32% of the municipal area was accounted for by settlements, 10% for forests and woodlands and 58% for agriculture.
Villars-Sainte-Croix has an extensive industrial park on the municipal border with Crissier. The neighboring municipalities of Villars-Sainte-Croix are Bussigny , Vufflens-la-Ville , Mex and Crissier .

With 962 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2018), Villars-Sainte-Croix is one of the smaller municipalities in the canton of Vaud. 88.0% of the residents are French-speaking, 5.2% Italian-speaking and 4.2% German-speaking (as of 2000).
Since 1960 (113 inhabitants) the population has grown very quickly six times over within 40 years. Today Villars-Sainte-Croix is part of the Lausanne metropolitan area.

economy
Until the second half of the 20th century, Villars-Sainte-Croix was predominantly an agricultural village. Today arable farming has only a marginal importance in the employment structure of the population. A small wine-growing area is located north of the village.
Since the 1970s, a commercial and industrial zone has emerged south of the town, which has significantly changed the economic structure of Villars-Sainte-Croix. Important companies in the fields of mechanical engineering , metal construction , body construction, precision mechanics and a printing shop are located here. In recent years the village has developed into a residential community thanks to its attractive location. Many workers are therefore commuters who work mainly in Lausanne.

The community is very well developed in terms of transport. It is located on the main road 9 from Lausanne to Vallorbe . The Villars-Sainte-Croix junction of the A1 (Geneva-Lausanne-Bern) and A9 (Lausanne-Sion) motorways is located in the municipality . A residential area was created even within the vast motorway triangle. The Lausanne-Crissier motorway junction on the A1 is around 2 km from the town center. Villars-Sainte-Croix is connected to the public transport network by bus route 32 of the Transports publics de la région lausannoise on the Renens - Mex route.
A tram line m3 of the Métro Lausanne is planned from the district Croix-de-Péage via Lausanne-Flon and the Pontaise to Blécherette .
history
The first written mention of the place took place in 1227 under the name of Sainte-Croix . The church mentioned in 1230 and the Johanniter hospice mentioned in 1272 were destroyed after the Reformation . It wasn't until 1543 that the name Villaret appeared . With the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1536, Villars-Sainte-Croix came under the administration of the Bailiwick of Lausanne . After the collapse of the Ancien Régime , the village belonged to the canton of Léman from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic, which then became part of the canton of Vaud when the mediation constitution came into force . In 1798 it was assigned to the Morges district.
