Villevêque is a town and commune Déléguée in the French municipality of Rives-du-Loir-en-Anjou with 2,990 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Maine-et-Loire in the region of Pays de la Loire . The inhabitants are called Villevêquois (es) .
geography
Villevêque is located about 15 kilometers northwest of Angers in the Anjou wine-growing region on the Loir River . The municipality of Villevêque was surrounded by the neighboring municipalities of Soucelles in the north, Corzé in the east, Sarrigné and Loire-Authion in the southeast, Le Plessis-Grammoire and Verrières-en-Anjou in the south, Écouflant in the southwest and Briollay in the west.
history
Villevêque (derived from the French ville d'évêque, lat. Villa episcopi , the name of the place in 1259, means: house of the bishop ) was the residence of the bishops of Angers.
The municipality of Villevêque merged with Soucelles to form the Commune nouvelle Rives-du-Loir-en-Anjou on January 1, 2019 . Since then it has had the status of a Commune déléguée. The municipality of Villevêque belonged to the Arrondissement of Angers and was part of the canton of Angers-6 (until 2015: Angers-Nord-Est ).
