The Suyckutambo district is located in the Espinar Province in the Cusco region in south-central Peru . The district founded on March 17, 1961 has an area of ​​628 km². At the 2017 census, there were 1766 residents in the district. In 1993 the population was 3061, in 2007 it was 2796. The district administration is based in the village of Virginniyoc with 414 inhabitants located on the left bank of the Río Cayomani at an altitude of 4801  m (as of 2017). Virginniyoc is about 35 km southwest of the provincial capital Yauri . The climate is best for traveling to the region between April and October.

Geographical location

The Suyckutambo district is located in the Andean highlands in the extreme southwest of the Espinar province. The Río Apurímac crosses the district in a northerly direction. Its left tributary, the Río Sañu, runs along the northern district boundary. The rivers Río Cayomani and Río Cerritambo, tributaries of the Río Apurímac, drain a large part of the area.

The district of Suyckutambo borders in the north on the district Coporaque , in the southeast on the district Tisco and in the southwest on the district Caylloma (the latter two are in the province of Caylloma ).
