The 21st and final stage of the Vuelta a España 2008 on September 21st led over 102.2 kilometers from San Sebastián de los Reyes to Madrid . There were two sprint ratings on the program. Initially, the route led 60 kilometers to Madrid. In the end, a six-kilometer circuit had to be tackled there seven times.
After a leisurely start, the first sprint classification became a matter for the Silence Lotto team, which won the classification, especially the wearer of the points jersey: Greg van Avermaet . The race really started when we reached the circuit. The first attacks did not lead to success immediately, only at the end of the first lap were Valerio Agnoli , Emanuele Bindi and Jesus Rosendo able to break away a little more clearly. Cofidis and Crédit Agricole brought the field back up. CSC then took control and suppressed further attacks. This work was rewarded by Matti Breschel's victory of the day .
