Walter Clifford "Walt" Minnick (born September 20, 1942 in Walla Walla , Washington ) is an American politician . From January 3, 2009 to January 3, 2011, he represented the first constituency of the state of Idaho in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Walt Minnick grew up on a wheat farm and attended Whitman College in Walla Walla until 1964 . He then studied law at Harvard University until 1969, among other things. From 1970 to 1972 he was a soldier in the US Army . He then worked as a lawyer. He then worked on President Richard Nixon's staff , from which he resigned in protest against the Watergate affair . A business career followed that took him to the boards of several companies. Among other things, he became CEO of TJ International .

After his political work for Richard Nixon, he was politically neutral for a long time and then joined the Democratic Party . In the 1996 congressional election, Minnick ran unsuccessfully for the US Senate . He received 39.91% of the vote. The election winner Larry Craig of the Republican Party came to 57.02%. In the 2008 congressional elections, Walter Minnick was elected to the US House of Representatives with 50.61% of the vote against incumbent Bill Sali (49.39%). Minnick took office on January 3, 2009. He was a member of the Agriculture and Finance Committees.

Walt Minnick is married to AK Lienhart-Minnick.
