Russ Fulcher (born March 9, 1962 in Boise , Idaho ) is an American politician and former member of the Idaho Senate . He was first elected to the United States House of Representatives in November 2018 . Fulcher is a Republican and represents Idaho's first congressional constituency .

Life

Fulcher grew up in Meridian and attended high school there . He earned a bachelor's degree in 1984 and a master's of business administration degree from Boise State University in 1988 . He worked as a real estate agent, as well as for technology companies in the field of sales and marketing.

He is married and has three children.

Fulcher was a member of the Idaho Senate from 2009 to 2014, his mandate being confirmed twice. Most recently he was a member of the Committees for Education and State Affairs .

In 2014, he ran unsuccessfully in the Republican primaries for his party's nomination for governor of Idaho. He was defeated by the incumbent Butch Otter , who was also re-elected.

In the 2018 election , Fulcher ran for the seat in the House of Representatives from Raúl Labrador , who ran unsuccessfully for governor of Idaho. In the Republican primary , Fulcher was elected with 43.12% of the vote against six other candidates. In the general election he won 63.3% of the vote against the Democrat Cristina McNeil. His term began in January 2019.
