Raúl Rafael Labrador (* 8. December 1967 in Carolina , Puerto Rico ) is an American politician of the Republican Party . From 2011 to 2019 he represented the state of Idaho in the US House of Representatives .

Career

As a teenager, Raúl Labrador came to Las Vegas , Nevada with his mother . Later he studied until 1992 at the Brigham Young University in Provo ( Utah ). After completing a law degree at the University of Washington in Seattle and being admitted to the bar in 1995, he began working in this profession. He later settled in Idaho. Politically, he joined the Republican Party . He was a member of the Idaho House of Representatives from 2006 to 2010 . There he successfully campaigned against the increase in gasoline prices.

In the 2010 congressional elections , Labrador was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the first constituency of Idaho , where he succeeded the previously defeated Democrat Walt Minnick on January 3, 2011 . There he is or was a member of the Committee on Natural Resources and Legal Affairs, as well as several sub-committees. He is also a member of the Congressional Hispanic Conference and the Republican Study Committee . He was previously a member of the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform . He has five children with his wife, Rebecca.

In the midterm elections in 2012 Labrador sat down with 63:31 percent of the vote to Democrat Jimmy Farris by a former NFL - Football -Profi. He was re-elected in 2014 and 2016. In the midterm elections in 2018 he did not join in again on his candidacy for governor focus of Idaho. However, he lost the Republican primary against the future incumbent Brad Little . His successor in the House of Representatives was Russ Fulcher .
