Compton Ignatius White, Jr. (born December 19, 1920 in Spokane , Washington , †  October 19, 1998 in Sandpoint , Idaho ) was an American politician . Between 1963 and 1967 he represented the first constituency of the state of Idaho in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Compton White was the son of his father of the same name, Compton I. White , who had represented Idaho twice in the US House of Representatives between 1933 and 1951. The younger Compton White attended public schools in Clark Fork and Washington, DC He studied at George Washington University between 1938 and 1939 and then at the University of Idaho from 1939 to 1942 . He was also active in the mining business as well as in agriculture, especially in livestock.

During the Second World War he worked in the development department at the Boeing plant in Seattle . Between 1947 and 1950 he was among other things on the school board of Clark Fork. Like the father, the son became a member of the Democratic Party . In 1960 he applied unsuccessfully within his party for their nomination to the US Senate . From 1958 to 1962 he was Mayor of the City of Clark Fork.

In 1962 Compton White was elected to the US House of Representatives, where he succeeded Gracie Pfost on January 3, 1963 . After re-election in 1964, he was able to exercise this mandate until January 3, 1967. In the 1966 election he was defeated by Jim McClure . In 1967, White was an advisor to the US Treasury Department . Afterwards he returned to his private business, especially agriculture.
